She’s a Second Lieutenant.....you’re lucky she’s not sitting on them. In the Navy, she’d be an Ensign and she’d think headphones are Nokias in the bathroom.

Psychoanalyze this:

When it came to military planes, or commercial planes, if I found out the pilot was female, I’d claim sickness and get off the plane.

On the other hand, in the private world, I have had female flight instructors and have flown in private choppers with female friends. No problems there. Good pilots all. Some better than most.

Gremlins are FOR REAL. (I know, I’ve actually seen them and I wasn’t drunk or stoned!) And for the most part, Gremlins are female, and their jealousy knows no bounds.

Anyone who knows and believes in good and bad joss at altitude, knows Gremlins LIVE.

Superstitious? You best believe it.

Don’t waste your time telling me how effed up I am, I have beau coup hours in the air, and I’m still alive, all because I listen to the little voices in my head!

LOL, now, have at it!

Your photo reminds me of a real-life incident with awesome piloting skills, and of a quote:
"Flying is the second greatest thrill known to man....Landing is the first!"

Wiki:

On 29 September 1940, a mid-air collision occurred over Brocklesby, New South Wales, Australia. The accident was unusual in that the aircraft involved, two Avro Ansons of No. 2 Service Flying Training School RAAF, remained locked together after colliding, and then managed to land safely. Both navigators bailed out after the aircraft struck, followed shortly afterwards by the injured pilot of the lower Anson. The pilot of the upper Anson, however, found that he was able to control the interlocked aircraft using his ailerons and flaps, coupled with the still-functioning engines on the machine underneath. He was then able to make a successful emergency landing in a paddock near Brocklesby. All four crewmen survived the incident, and the Ansons were repaired and remained in service with the Air Force.

Actually, I’d guess her Left earphone is in place over her ear in order to hear radio/intercom transmissions, while she has moved the Right one so that she can hear fellow crew members in the cockpit, especially the guy taking the photo.

As long as she had coffee made and the mid-flight snack cooked, I don’t see the problem with her flying the plane.

If I’m not mistaken, this woman saved money, and bought a plan against her husband’s will.

She is recognized as one of the most accomplished pilots of the time, male or female.

Her granddaughter carries the torch today. EAA has published the story.

What a goober! Definitely a pioneer.

One of the best flights I’ve ever had was with a female pilot. Both the takeoff and landing were those you never noticed when the aircraft left or touched down on the runway.

That happened to a friend of mine who is an instructor. He was flying a high wing cessna (dont remember the model) with a student. There was another young pilot who had a low wing plane and didn’t bother to check his airspace.

My friend said the first he knew the other plane was there was when its nose gear came down thru the windshield. Fortunately the props didn’t foul but they did land that way. The landing gear for the bottom plane were stressed but otherwise the damage was minimal. Happened here in Tampa.

Yea. . .and the fact she tried to take-off with a hose from the fuel truck still in the tank.

And after decades of flying as a pilot, instructor pilot and evaluator pilot, the best female pilot I ever saw was “good.” Not excellent, not superb, not outstanding. Just “good.”

” A Brazilian airline says one of its female pilots tossed a passenger off a flight because he was making sexist comments about women flying planes. “

Good thing he wasn’t a racist & a homophobe too!

As 20,000 hour airline captain that’s had many female co-pilots, I don’t think women (generally) are cut out to be good pilots. They handle training and normal operations ok, but under extreme duress in critical situations, they often panic and freeze up. It’s too PC for the FAA to look at, but skydiving stats are similar. Last numbers I saw, 10% of jumps were women, 50% of fatalities, and it was usually panic.
