I was a high teacher for three years. One of my favorite students did not come to school one day. She die in her sleep form asthma. It was my hardest day at school. That nurse needs to be fired. Schools are very good at having many rules that never seem to get to the parents.
I believe that once again common sense is bereft at the schools. But in severe case of self-honesty I believe that the real culprit for that lack of common sense can be laid at the feet of the Trial-lawyers. Their willingness to sue on behalf of anyone regardless of the commonsensical nature of the case has lead us down this dark and dangerous path where thinking is bad and following the rules blindly is good.
You’d think we have enough rules and regulations by now, wouldn’t you? We’ve reached the point where the law itself is becoming unjust. Last night there was a thread about a student who was fined $675,000 for uploading 30 songs on the Internet. Here we have a nurse who legally could have sat there and done nothing while a student died. She might have followed the law, but she was doing evil.
It’s like the Good Samaritan story in the Bible. Who was good? Was it those who would have let the traveler die rather than render aid on the Sabbath (obeying the law), or the Samaritan? The Samaritan violated the letter of the law, but he obeyed the spirit of the law.
The lawyers are only turned loose by a public hungry for revenge or money or both.
I can't believe the people here are quick to jump on the nurse...the same people who whould blame her if she had given it to him and he died.
School nurses don't write school policies.
I doubt she would have "let him die." But don't blame the nurse...blame the policy!
Truth is schools are blamed for all problems in society today...including what once was considered parental responsibilities.
If I had had to work in a H.S. I would be on death row!
