A majority of Florida voters support the state's "Stand Your Ground" self-defense law that was called into question in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, according to a poll released Thursday.
The survey by Quinnipiac University found that 56 percent of registered voters support the law, which allows persons to use deadly force in their own defense. Only 35 percent oppose it.
Neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman says he shot Martin in self-defense in Sanford, Fla., on Feb. 26 during a confrontation with the teen. Mr. Zimmerman has been charged with second-degree murder in a case that has attracted national scrutiny.
Support for the law is especially strong among registered Republicans 78 percent are in favor of the statute. Among independents, 58 percent support the law. Fifty-nine percent of Democrats oppose it.
There is a racial breakdown in the polling as well: 61 percent of white voters and 53 percent of Hispanic voters support the law, but 56 percent of black voters oppose it. Mr. Zimmerman's father is Hispanic, while the victim was black.
The survey also found that 51 percent of Florida voters oppose stricter gun-control laws, and 49 percent disagree with Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn's proposal to ban guns from downtown Tampa during the Republican National Convention in August.

Perhaps, with all the threads and articles on this, I’ve missed something. Can anyone tell me if ANYONE involved with this has invoked SYG? Have Zimmerman, his defense team, the police and/or prosecutors said ANYTHING about SYG except when questioned about it by media or the race hustlers?
If I just missed it, a link would be appreciated.
It will be used by the defense in the first hearing to have the judge throw the case out.
How does SYG differ from normal self-defense laws as a defense?
I would think “self defense” would be used first and be enough.
What I’m getting at is that I have ONLY heard the media talking about SYG since this incident hit the national stage. It is as if the media was trying to start a hoopla over the SYG law even if it has no bearing in this case.
“ONLY heard the media” S/B “heard ONLY the media”

In addition, 99.7% of violent thugs, robbers, rapists, and murderers oppose SYG.
Zimmerman’s mother is hispanic. She’s Peruvian. His father is white.
Those using the Stand Your Ground argument are either lazy, misinformed or trying to deceive since Zimmerman had no way to retreat when he was on his back being pummeled.
Maybe I’m tinfoil hat, but the entire Zimmerman event smacks of a coordinated push by the media and the White House to not only weaken gun rights in Florida, but to also stoke up the black vote (probably even the Jewish vote) in Florida.
Nationally, it was another attempt to bring America’s “outright racism” to the front stage again and demonize gun owners.
Liberals hate freedom.
Given that Zimmerman's father is Jewish and Zimmerman is a Democrat, how do you figure that this contrived controversy will get out the Jewish Democrat vote? Will racial guilt trump ethnicity? Or is it fear, just as the French Jewish community failed to come to Dreyfus' defense, leaving the heavy lifting to Zola?
>>Given that Zimmerman’s father is Jewish and Zimmerman is a Democrat<<
Actually, George and his family are Catholics.
George is a White, Hispanic, Black, Peruvian Catholic Democrat.
“How does SYG differ from normal self-defense laws as a defense?”
The only reason SYG even exists in States like Forlida is because they used to have the CSL(Chicken-sh*t Law) that said a person must flee from a criminal. I kid you not. They then made the SYG laws to compensate.

2 thoughts in reply and, in a way, agreement to what you’re written:
1. The Media/Democrats didn’t realize that he was a Democrat, or Jewish (regardless of his surname) when they pulled the trigger on the controversy. It (A) never occurred to them that a Dem would carry a gun, and (B) they just don’t care about jews.
2. You’re running on the presumption that Jews care about jews just because they’re jews. If they did, they would vote for the party that supports Israel. But they do not. Regretfully, I believe that Jews, currently, care more about party than religion.
Given these two points, I stand by my initial thoughts...
