Detroit street lights may shrink by half

Detroit street lights may be going dark soon. At least half of them will no longer shine as the city shrinks. The city has 88,000 streetlights and about 40 percent of those are broken, and the city cannot afford to fix them.

Mayor Dave Bing developed a plan to repair and reduce the street lights in Detroit. Unfortunately, the city is facing reduced population, which has reduced its budget for services like street lights.

Under the new plan, the city would only have 46,000, and ultimately they would save $10 million a year once the changes were made. Of course, not everybody is happy about the changes because some areas will literally be left in the dark.

The sad thing is that things have to change. The city cannot afford to continue maintenance and street lights in areas where very few people live. It is hard, but perhaps they can help shrink the city to a more managable area. The big problem is that criminals can operate easier in the dark.

Yes, but the problem cities are exclusively run by liberals.

Show me a city having Detroit/LA/Chicago/Atlanta/New York city problems that has been run for decades by conservatives.

There are none.

The unique force you are talking about is liberalism, allowed to run these places for decades. These urban wastelands are the result of decades of local liberal policies.

Liberal policies are a big factor. But then Seattle, Portland, Honolulu, to name a few, have had liberal admins for quite a while.

Canada has been liberal. England, same. France, Scandinavian countries, etc. None of those places have seen the utter destruction of metro areas that we have seen in the US.

But keep pondering it.

I know what you are hinting at, but I am telling you that liberal polices are responsible for that. Decades and decades of such policies. Ultimately it’s liberal policies. And liberals being in power to push more and more of them and keep funding them at the expense of the makers.

Good. That will help reduce global warming.

From the political orientation of their "leaders" and "representatives," the denizens of the inner cities seem to be very worried about global warming, the disappearance of endangered species, and our shrinking virgin wilderness areas.
