RAVENA, N.Y. (AP) -- A 25-year-old upstate New York man has admitted driving his motorcycle at 170 mph as he tried to get away from police who caught him speeding on the Thruway.

The Times Union of Albany reports ( http://bit.ly/MqQHl0 ) that Nikkolaus McCarthy of Charlton will lose his license for 90 days and was sentenced to the 20 days he's already spent in jail.

Need to capture that picture and use to represent what Obama is doing to the country.

"How did they catch him?"

I think the original article said he ran out of gas.

He’s the real deal. But he’s made his rides around various European cities at ridiculous speeds through traffic into videos with the help of his friends.

For the longest time he did not reveal his identity but a few years ago he finally did. Some Swedish guy named Patrik Furstenhoff.
More info here about him.

In the city or on rural roads yes, but not on a freeway with dividers on it. You usually only have a small window to make your escape or they will box you in.

A misspent youth has taught me many things...

But I’d like to shake this guy’s hand.

<><><><

Me too. I like to shake the hands of people who are so effing reckless they endanger everyone else on the road.

To those who think this guy did something really horrible

<><><><>

So that kind of stuff passes for cool in your world, eh? Cuz you get to tell folks that it took 6 troopers to stop you?

I don’t think it was horrible, it was effing stupid.

Do it on a closed track where the only person you endanger is yourself, hey have at it. On an interstate with other people, it’s a complete ahole move.

“...170 mph as he tried to get away...”

He deserves to lose his lisence for not being able to shake a tail at that velocity.

That’s the problem with these particular idiot motorcycle drivers, they endanger everyone else around them and they don’t care. When they get hurt they sue other motorists for cutting them off or not seeing them.

Is there a general sense that police chases often result favorably for the rider/driver? I’m wondering what set of statistics go through the perp’s mind as he computes “There’s a cop on my ass and I think I can lose him...”

>To those who think this guy did something really horrible....ohhh BS.

>Although I wouldn’t trust my abilities to do it any more, I have done 170 on the road in the past. Great road, good conditions, great fun. Until the time the rozzers caught me and 6 troopers were arguing over who got the honor of writing the ticket for 100 over on an interstate.

Dood! We are not worthy...

I had a 19 yr. old cousin doing 140.

Going that fast he must have hit a small bump but his body separated from the bike. His body made contact with a tree. The tree won. His upper torso was found and his lower half was found…30 yards away.

Stupid and admittedly sad. He probably had no idea what he could have possibly been throwing away. Everyone’s invincible at 19.

Problem is I see people my age doing this crap all the time on the highway, zipping in between traffic and then get home to see the lawyer commercials from shysters saying “better respect us bikers” because don’t ya know all biker accidents with other vehicles are always the other vehicle’s fault.

I don’t think anyone said it really “horrible”. That’s reserved more for murders, rapes etc.

I think most people have said he did something really STUPID. And that his stupidity is made worse because it endangers other people on the road not anticipating having to deal with a nut going 170 mph. And wasting a number of cops’ time for no real good reason.

Most around me don’t wear helmets. In some ways I am appreciative because if they are in a self-inflicted crash it’s game over.

"Dood! We are not worthy....

Nice to see someone who does not equate speed with danger 'cuz it ain't always so.

By the way, it was early '69 outside Lansing on an empty interstate at 2 AM. Driving my 69 Hemi Charger 500 (the first NASCAR variant) that had been balanced and blueprinted by the Ramchargers...I still have the car, just under 20k on it.
