Reagan was Army, he started in 1937 in the Army reserves with the cavalry went on active duty as Army, and in mid 1942 went to the aviation branch of the Army.
Reagan was always Army until his discharge.

During World War II, the aviation branch of the Army was known as The United States Army Air Forces, often shortened to the Army Air Forces. After the war, in 1947, the USAAF split into its own service branch and was re-designated The United States Air Force.
