Orrin Hatch should never be confused with Arlen Specter.

But I think I've got it now...

You'd prefer a candidate who wants to raise taxes and is somebody you don't trust over the incumbent because...well, because the incumbent is the incumbent.

Isn't that about it?

Unfortunately there’s a small group of FR zealots who can't get past...

Every site has its share of morons and FR, with its HUGE membership, is no exception. The morons are easy to spot, though. Whereas most conservatives understand that almost nobody is a true 100%-er, the morons throw around the acronym "RINO" like confetti. They're well-meaning but they're like excitable children and I've learned to just ignore them.

Beyond people like Jeffords, Specter, Chafee, Lugar, Castle, and a relative handful of others, there really aren't all that many RINOs.
Certainly not Hatch.

FRegards,
LH

I agree Arlen Specter is far more liberal than Hatch has ever been, but no, you still don't get it, okie01.

It isn't a matter of me "preferring" a candidate who is willing to side with the Dems on raising taxes. Hatch has certainly voted to raise taxes more than his fair share of times over the last 30 years. Neither candidate can be trusted on that issue. I'd don't trust Hatch to legislate as a reliable conservative, and I don't trust Liljenquist. There are no "good" candidates to pick from. It's really not a good situation... you Hatch whose best days are behind him and has gotten old and complacent, and Liljenquist who has lots of questionable stances that would embarrass us, and some very creepy supporters who remind me of the Paulbot cult.

It's not a matter of automatically "opposing whoever is the incumbent" either. I can probably cite a dozen times where I SUPPORTED an incumbent Republican over a fresh-faced challenger, including when it was unpopular to do so on FR. A lot of these unknowns the tea party plucked from obscurity turned out to be clueless armatures who ran lousy campaigns and made lousy politicians. I don't agree with the freepers who argue anyone who's ever held office needs to go and we need more "businessmen" from the private sector to run every position in government. We've had plenty of those (Ahnuld Schwartzenegger), etc., and many times they've proven no better, or worse than the "experienced politician"

There is potential Liljenquist will exceed expectations and turn out to be a good conservative, though. There is no chance Hatch will, however. He's had decades to do so and his glory days are long over and we don't need any more Senators who use the Senate as a nursing home.

I don't know anything about Liljenquist beyond what I've read on this forum.

But if he is stupid enough to express support for higher taxes while he is still in an uphill campaign against an entrenched Republican incumbent, I'd suspect that he's too stupid to entrust with anything beyond a job packing sardines.

Stupid and untrustworthy aren't very good job qualifications...

You're the one that has to make a decision, though. As for me, I need to worry about getting Ted Cruz past David Dewhurst -- both of whom appear to be better candidates than either Liljenquist or Hatch.

Yes, far too many jump to support anyone (even random housewives and realtors) with no record who crowns themselves King or Queen of the Tea Party. That’s why I prefer to run candidates with records. Anyone can claim to be conservative.

Ok, this guy maybe a toad, but what is sadder then is their isn't a legit candidate to take on Orin from Utah.

I am sorry, IMHO Orin is out of touch and I am tired of Senators in their 70's and 80's that want to have a State Funeral as a badge of honor because they don't want leave.

Term limits either by the ballot or legislation are so needed. Then we repeal the 17th admendment, what a mess that is...

Well, well...I guess that Sarah Palin does know a lot more about these things than many of her FR critics.

Sometimes FReepers mean well, but come off stubborn. This is one of those times. They forget to look at the BIG picture and not to knee jerk to situations. I am amazed at the insight of Palin and Levin through every situation. We must use our heads if we are to get clear of the weeds.

Hatch is still a seventy-eight year old, thirty-six year entrenched handmaiden to the democrats who, in his last term will thwart conservatism with no fear of repercussion.

Yes and his campaign manager stated THAT HE IS NOT A TEA PARTY CANDIDATE. I now understand why Levin and Palin endorsed old orin. Just because someone has a pac that promotes them as if they were TEA Party... does not mean that it is true.

So Sarah Palin was right, again?

Not only that she must have seen the guy on TV or heard him speak. A real lightweight! He will kill himself if he keeps whining about Hatch refusing to debate. We had high hopes...and then he opened his mouth. The Dem candidate for Senate, Howell called me last week to discuss his own possibilities. My only question for him was. What about Obama and Obamacare? Crickets....
