Where I live every house used to have its own water well, most had been dug by hand with pick and shovel. They were large diameter of necessity, you had to have room for a man to work and fill a bucket with dirt and or stones to be raised and emptied by another man or two with a windlass. When people started replacing them with small diameter wells drilled by machines I came up with the bright idea of cutting the old wells up into small pieces and selling ready made post holes but I couldn’t seem to get any financial backing, something about people thinking I had lost my mind or something, never could understand it.
