In my earlier ‘live and let live’ days, I TRIED co-existence: with snails, with rats (as long as they stayed in the yard), with spiders.
No more! Nature does NOT share. The snails wanted everything. The raccoons ate ALL my corn. The rats came into the attic.
Now it’s Scorched Earth Policy here — Snarol, the Rat Guy and his poison, smashing spiders. ‘Getting along’ is just plain stupid.
I just bought a live trap this morning to get rid of a coon that’s hanging around.
Exactly. Shoot them along with feral animals.
The rats were exactly what came to mind. I lived in an inner urban area for my first 36 years. The rats were as big as cats, and not in the least intimidated when I walked my dog at midnight. (They’d sit up on their haunches in the gutter at look at us. My dog was half German Shepherd, so she was a decent size.) There are times when coexistence doesn’t work.
I agree except for spiders which are good for the garden.
Also the Bible preferred them.
