Unfortunately, the taxpayers are still stuck with the high salaries and hugh pensions of current employees. We can’t afford those either. Then pension reform hasn’t gone far enough.

Right on. We need to figure out how much we need to pay these folks TODAY for the work they do TODAY. Just like everyone else with a job. It is ridiculous to promise them pay and benefits for the REST OF THEIR LIVES in exchange for the next 20 years work. Maybe they should get a raise. But when the work stops, the pay and benefits stop. I’m sure someone will take that deal if the current crop resigns over it.

As with rolling back anti-gun laws . . . small steps, small steps.

Your right, this only applies to new hires. San Jose is still on the hook for current employees and retirees. As is San Diego. These pensions literally make me sick. I heard on a local radio show that there are retired librarians receiving over 100 grand a year. Can you believe it?!!

From the article: "Tuesday's votes set the stage for potentially lengthy legal challenges by public employee unions. The measures are unusual because they address pensions for current employees, not just new hires." Unless I'm missing something, it looks like it affects all working employees.

lets be real folks....any public pension will need to be affected by necessity...

I suggest that the public unions decrease slightly those currently collecting..do it in the name of saving jobs for fellow union members...

and starting immediately, no one in any govt entity can start collecting until at least age 60 or 62....

of course that will go over like a lead balloon...
