Life is full of surprisessome of which take life in unwelcome directions. I still remember the shockwave that hit our family several decades ago when my father lost his job through no fault of his own. With a house full of kids to feed, it was a jarring blow. But as certainly as Dads job loss was beyond his control and unexpected, he still knew he could trust God for his future.
As Jesus followers, we must recognize that there are things in life that are the uncontrollable unexpected, as I call them. To help us in those moments, James 4:13-15 offers this wisdom: Come now, you who say, Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit; whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. . . . Instead you ought to say, If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that. The people to whom James was writing were making plans while excluding Gods prerogative to direct their lives.
Is it wrong to plan for the future? Of course not. It is unwise, however, to forget that God may allow some uncontrollable unexpected events as He sees fit. Ultimately, all that happens is for the besteven when its hard to see. We must trust Him and His plans for our future.

A pinch of this...a dash of that...
The first actress known to wear trousers was Sarah Bernhardt in 1876.
Gene Wilder made his film debut in a small, but memorable, role
as a hostage in the 1967 film Bonnie and Clyde.
(ah...anyone remember him there?)
Murderer John Horwood was hanged on April 13, 1821.
His skin was used to bind a book describing
the dissection of his body by surgeon Richard Smith.
(Ga-ross...yuk)(hmm...they had murders back then? I thought it was pretty lawless)
Giant hornet workers capture a variety of insects,
including bees and yellowjackets, to feed their young.
Workers strip back bark from shrubs a favorite is lilac.
As they girdle the branches, they lick the sap from the torn edge.
Golf was banned in England and Scotland
in 1457 by King James II because he claimed
it distracted people from the archery practice necessary for national defense.
(ha! I bet it was because everyone beat him...hehe)
Still trying to catch up.
Got meeting with bossman this morning,
so of course it'll be another quick post and run.
But, you stay right where you are.
Keep the troops entertained and the Canteen clean...
Cause...if you don't...I'll tell Ma!
Come in and sit for a while.
There's always plenty of coffee, tea,
pancakes, conversation, silliness,
and plain old BS
PLEASE REMEMBER THEM ....

I am using a combined ping list from the Canteen and the Viking Kitties, and a host of other invitees, to alert everybody of a momentous, life-altering event, that I simply must share with the world!
The woman I cryptically referred to in the Canteen as The GF has just become The Bride!
The Bride is an Air Force medic, a retired NCO like me. She was a flight medic for 21 yrs., and worked in the VA Hospital system as an ER Tech for 9 yrs. She is now a Parole Officer with the County Sheriff.
I first met The Bride online, and we corresponded for several weeks until our first date, on Valentine's Day. Over the following months, as we grew closer, we both realized that this was the real thing, and there was no sense in pretending it was anything else. So on Tuesday evening, Sarge presented The Bride with the ring, asked The Question, and the rest is about to become history.
The Bride is fiercely patriotic, like me. Shes a veteran of Desert Storm and the GWOT, also like me. She was abroad in Saudi, twice to Turkey, once to the Azores and once to Guam. She was never in the hot zone, but she did patch up the holes and tears the enemy left behind.
Along with a new wife, I am getting a new family. The Bride has a son and two daughters from a previous marriage, and a grandbaby from the son. Im going to have a teenage daughter! God help me!
The tentative plan is, the wedding will be in October, on the beach of Sanibel Island, at sunset. It will be a very small deal, with only family attending. The Brides son will be the best man, and the two girls will be bridesmaids. The Bride will wear ivory or eggshell; Sarge will be in charcoal-grey.
Over the summer and towards the fall, there will be pics forthcoming for all to see. And the official wedding pics will be posted in the Canteen (yes, I will most likely hijack the thread), so basically, you are all virtually invited!
Sarge will report in later, so Let's Have Fun!
Offering up prayer for all our Heroes and their families. Protect and Bless Them Lord! In Jesus Name I pray. Amen.
