Florida Gov. Rick Scott tells Newsmax.TV that the victory of his Wisconsin counterpart, Scott Walker, in a recall election validates his own policies in the Sunshine State, and says that it may even be a bellwether for the November election between President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney.
“Absolutely” it’s a validation, declared Scott in an exclusive interview on Wednesday. “What we know now is that if you run on a campaign of fiscal responsibility, making your state a business-friendly state, reducing taxes, reducing regulations, putting people in place that are going to be pro-business — because that’s where jobs get created, by businesses, then the public’s going to support you.”
Walker, who, like Scott is a first-term Republican, became only the third governor in U.S. history to face a recall vote — and the first to emerge victorious as voters delivered a 7-point win over Democratic challenger Tom Barrett. The effort to remove Walker from office began last year after the state divided over the governor's push to effectively end collective bargaining for most public workers in an attempt to control the state budget.

Conservatives - let us not relax with this battle victory — we aim to win the war. No resting until Obama is out. Remind Polish-Americans of “Polish death camps”, remind Christians of “using the bible to support Gay marriage”, remind all people who believe in freedom of “Obama forcing people to pay for what is against their beliefs (contraception and then abortion)”. If Obama is not defeated by a WIDE margin, I consider it a loss.

He’s also as popular as mud for reasons I’m not entirely sure of. I was for the other guy in the primary. AFAIK Scott had no political experience prior to being elected Governor.
If he can’t turn it around it would be suicide to run him for reelection in 2014. FL Governor is a crown jewel we must keep.

The war is cold now compared to what it will be like in a couple months. Obama will fight like a bear protecting it’s secret stash of cocaine.
My theory is that he didn't learn from President Bush: He's been silent across the board. He shuns press conferences and interviews with the media. Guess what? That's the only way to explain your message, like it or not. Otherwise, the constant drumbeat by liberals will take its toll.
I'm not asking Gov. Scott to be like Gov. Christie on the PR front, but he should at least refrain from being President Bush.

He’s a good conservative and I don’t dislike him but I wonder if his political inexpieince is a major reason why his approval rating is in the toilet?
I actually worry about that quite a bit. If 2012 is good to us, we win the presidency and possibly the only Democrat holding statewide office in Florida: Bill Nelson. Then, 2014 becomes a midterm election year and a referendum - historically favoring the challengers.
Republicans occupying every statewide office in Florida could set the stage for tremendous losses. In such a close state, the enthusiasm gap is the biggest differentiator, and if Republicans have had 2 years to govern nationally, the gap will favor the Democrats.
If 2012 is *good* Nelson won’t be their either though we have less than stellar candidates so he is favored a bit right now.
I’m not as concerned with the fact it might be a Romney midterm than with the fact Scott appears just plain unelectable at this point. I don’t know of many pols who have rebounded from such bad numbers. If it’s still this bad a year and a half from now he would do well to bow out but I don’t know if he’s the kind of guy willing to do that and spare a divisive and costly primary. Jim Gibbons of Nevada was not that kind of guy (we easily held that office against Reid’s son however).
And President Bush’s bad communication was something that always bothered me. He gave a few good speeches but that was not enough. Scott needs to be using his bully pulpit. These remarks are a good start.
His ratings are in the toilet because state RINOs and some so-called conservatives who love public workers unions got their panties in a bunch because he did not give them enough tax money out of Florida’s coffers.
McCollum was a cry baby RINO establishment GOPer. Glad he lost and glad Scott is quietly doing his job and getting results. I’d take that any day over a media whore RINO that is just looking to kiss a$$ to become popular and be buddies with Obama.

Maybe that is Sanford and Seminole County’s problem with Scott, but the RINO’s in this state have hated him way before the Zimmerman case. They have done all they can to marginalize him and TEA party people here in Florida. There was even someone on the Florida state board here, crying about Scott making the public unions pay. Oh and boo hoo, Scott won’t build a bullet train to nowhere.
I’m sure they would love to see their hero gaytime Charlie Crist back in the governor’s office. He was well loved by all the libs, republican and democrat. He would surely be a “winner” for all the RINOs and Romneyites. Democrats they love, but conservatives get on their last nerve.

“If the effect of the NVRA (Motor Voter) is to force a state to allow never-eligible non-citizens the opportunity to vote,” he wrote, “then the statute might violate the Equal Protection Clause of the Constitution, which guarantees that the right to vote cannot be denied by a dilution of the weight of a citizen’s vote.”
As for the Voting Rights Act claim, Detzner wrote, Florida already received federal permission to remove noncitizens, which is clearly spelled out in Florida law.
What’s more, the Voting Rights Act applies to only five Florida counties — Monroe, Hillsborough, Collier, Hardee and Hendry — and not the other 62 in Florida, including Miami-Dade, where about 1,600 of the 2,700 potential noncitizens were initially identified by the state in a database created by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
About 500 people in Miami-Dade have been found to be lawful citizens and voters, and 13 noncitizens have been found. Two of them might have voted and could face prosecution. The county has been unable to verify the citizenship of more than 1,100 others.
Assuming the purge halts, those people could vote this year — even if some are noncitizens.
"Not a single eligible voter as far, as I know, has been removed from the voter rolls," Scott said Wednesday on WNDB radio in Daytona Beach, according to a News Service of Florida transcript. "Not one. And we’re working to keep it that way."
"Their vote should not be diluted by people who don’t have the right to vote," Scott said. "We need to be reviewing our voter rolls and making sure only those individuals who have the right to vote … are voting."
“This hardly seems like an approach earnestly designed to protect the integrity of elections and to ensure that eligible voters have their votes counted,” said the letter, written by Scott’s hand-picked secretary of state, Ken Detzner, a fellow Republican.

I’ve never lived in Florida, but naming a special persecutor - the realistic name for the function - in the Martin case is no way to endear yourself to me. Sure looks like Zimmerman is being railroaded, and naming someone to prosecute him for actions he took when he knew the cops were coming within a couple of minutes just doesn’t sound like justice to me.What it sounds like, is fear.
