Bobby Jindal Rising as Romney’s VP Choice
Newsmax ^ | 06/07/2012 | By Ronald Kessler

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal is rising as Mitt Romney’s possible pick for vice president, according to campaign sources.

Last month, Americans for Tax Reform President Grover Norquist touted Jindal for the vice presidential slot in an opinion piece for Politico.

Norquist tells me he wrote the piece knowing that “Jindal is a leading option.”

Jindal is rarely mentioned in speculation about Romney’s possible choice. A rising star in the Republican Party, he suffered a setback when he bombed delivering the Republican response to President Barack Obama’s first speech to Congress on Feb. 24, 2009.

Adding Jindal to the Republican presidential ticket would bring to Romney’s fold neither a swing state nor a major ethnic minority. But such political considerations are not foremost in Romney’s mind. He has said he is only interested in choosing a candidate who would make a good president.

As he constantly points out, Romney is a conservative businessman, not a politician. He amassed a fortune of more than $200 million not by making cynical political calculations but by looking for the best — often novel — opportunities and by hiring people based on character, competence, and quality.

Jindal qualifies on all counts — and has an inspiring life story that epitomizes the American dream.

Jindal’s mother Raj was three months pregnant with him when his parents came to this country from Punjab, India in 1971. The daughter of a bank manager, Raj had a scholarship to study for a doctorate in nuclear physics at Louisiana State University.

I would rather see Petraeus as VP.

He has what Mitt lacks: foreign policy, military and anti-terrorism experience.

Jindal would be helpful in getting back some of the Asian vote to the GOP side. They vote way too Left.

"Regardless whether you buy the reasoning of the Birthers (I don't), Jindal is every bit as eligible as Obama.

Not necessarily; it's been pretty well established Obama has never made all the information on his BC public. My favorite theory (with tongue in cheek) is that it lists Eldridge Cleaver as the father; Obama could never release that becuase: 1.) Cleaver was a serial rapist and black power advocate; but 2.) After he reformed, he became a Mormon and a republican.

Obama would have been savaged by both sides!

Not eligible, next.

Besides, during the Gulf oil disaster, he just stood there on the tarmac and took a dressing down from Zippy instead of telling Zippy to go F himself, I’m building the dikes anyway.

Yeah, that whole leadership role he perfected during Katrina, and the more recent tornadoes, is overrated.

Oh brother. Give it a rest. Katrina is ancient history and tornadoes? Who knew. So if you want to brag about Katrina and Tornadoes he did as his job requires, fine. But that gives the Republicans Louisiana and Mississippi which will go for the RINO (Romney) anyway.

ONLY if Petraeus justifies his ROE. I respect the man for the most part, but I do believe the ROE were his idea.

One thing is for sure: anybody mentioned this early is probably NOT going to be the eventual VP pick. Every potential pick will get his/her “week in the sun”.

>> I meant Hurricane Gustav <<

Doesn’t matter. The NBC folks will bash you and Jindal about some other issue — anything else will do!

That being said, I think Jindal’s time hasn’t yet come. 2020 will be soon enough, at which point he’ll probably have my enthusiastic support.

He’s against the legalization of same sex unions. He’s 100% pro life. He’s pro 2nd Amendment. He’s against illegal immigration. And, those are just the easy ones to define. What more does he need to bring to the table?

I absolutely agree with you. I think he still needs more experience.

I've seen him speak in many other contexts and believe that the "response" was an anomaly.

That's very good to hear; Jindal is a great man and great governor. I hope he has a bright future in government.

I wasn't basing my post on the one speech; I have seen him speak and interviewed other times; but, not a great deal, likely not as much as you have.

thanks for your reply.

...or name Sarah Palin as VP and show his smarts.

Don't think Sarah would accept as she has her eye on the prize. If Romney won he'd be young enough for re-election in 2016 and that would delay Sarah. If he loses, the path would be open for Sarah Palin in 2016. That's why she'd prefer the sidelines.

Beware of Jindal. He was spineless when it came to legislature pay raises. He vowed not to raise taxes, but instead tried to raise fees which the legislature shot down. His ethics reforms included tougher laws on all but the governor’s office. And now he is giving $8500/ low income student to attend the same private schools I’m paying thousands out of pocket for my child to attend. While I’m no fan of public schools, allowing the public school students to attend private school with no money out of their pockets isn’t going to fix the lack of motivation that is a problem in the public schools. It’s just another handout/redistribution scheme that tries to use money to equalize outcomes.

jindal is a “moistened finger in the air politician.” If he was a resident of Maryland or michigan, he’d be a Democrat.

It likely was but the DemonRats would ballyhoo it far and wide.

Then bring those items up. I have no problem with Jindal except his speaking ability and I am not sure he is NBC. Otherwise, bring him to the table.

Big time. I’m afraid a Veep candidate needs to be a good presenter and debater. Jindal fails here.

Next...
