The 2012 Campaign Through the Eyes of ‘Walmart Moms’
Roll Call ^ | June 9, 2012 | By Shira Toeplitz

Forget Seamus, the Ryan budget or even the “War on Women.” Undecided female voters didn’t even mention some of the 2012 cycle’s most-hyped news topics in a pair of focus groups on Wednesday evening.

Walmart sponsored the 90-minute focus groups, which were organized by a bipartisan team of pollsters: Margie Omero of Momentum Analysis and Alex Bratty of Public Opinion Strategies. Moderators questioned two groups of “Walmart Moms” — self-described undecided voters who shop at the store at least one a month — in Richmond, Va., and Las Vegas.

It’s a surprisingly rare opportunity for inside-the-Beltway reporters to hear out undecided female voters at length. Even on the campaign trail, interviews often last a few minutes with the most quotable participants. Nonetheless, these women are exactly the fought-over voters for whom campaigns clamor in the final weeks of an election.

Here are a few takeaways from the questioning session:

1. Don’t underestimate the power of the first family’s image with female voters.

That is an interesting point about EBT users just pilling stuff on the belt because they aren’t paying for it and they don’t care. Just like the fact that free lunch kids just throw out the food they don’t want and my kids always know to bring home unfinished food so I can use it the next day if it is not perishable.

OMG. We’re doomed. Can someone remind me again why we gave them the right to vote?

Yes in the Era of Baraq many can only afford minimal portion sizes rather than the lowest unit cost.

Not an attempt to lump all Wally World customers. It’s a fact that most of us shop there to save money. Hate to admit it, but I’m in there at least five times a week. We all are trying to do the best we can. Well those of us that are responsible that is. That being said, there are way too many in not just Wally World, but other stores that are buying everything they can get their hands on with money taken by force from us. Did not mean to offend you with my post. Sorry.

Would bet she’s a LEO. Many departments allow officers to carry their weapon in the open as long as their shields are visible.

The real problem with the Republicans is who they pick to run. Amazing choices. Wrinkled old white men, who are not conservative who cahonies have shriveled up. I am convinced that both major political parties exist to milk benefits from the old United States as it slowly goes down. As long an they have a teat to suck on they don't care what political party is in power. Zero based budgeting is strangling us. The US cannot produce a Federal budget. Chop Congresses salaries and all appropriations if we don't have a balanced budget and see the results.

Open Carry ? not so much!
The weapon on that tiny lady is at a ruthless criminals disposal, she would be easily overpowered. This is inviting a dangerous situation.
I personally never want anyone to know I am armed.
A little lady wearing a 45 on her hip has Zero tactical advantage. It’s dumb!

Not so dumb. The article doesn't identify the person or her location.

Perhaps she practices martial arts, and simply carries the firearm to keep thugs from trying something stupid, wherein she has to apply the ninja death touch®, or some such immediate termination technique.

I've trained many such people, and many of those appear less intimidating than this lady, with or without the firearm.

Uh huh! yeah, ninja death touch, big comic book fan?

She’s in a supermarket, in public.

I wouldn’t care if she mastered formlessness, it’s an invitation to nothing but bad.
I stand by what I said, it’s dumb

Most people recognize discussions of the ninja death touch® as sarcasm and jokes. At least, that is what you're supposed to believe.

That said, the lady, as an American, has the right to self defense, and the right to keep and bear arms. That her preference to do so intimidates and infuriates liberal weenies is just such a treat, and a public service to a free nation.

Yes, it’s her right to bear arms.
You also have the right to tell Chuck Laddell he looks ugly with his hair cut the way it is!
You have the right but it is ill advised! With rights comes responsibilities and consequences.

Are you the inventor of the Dim Mak?

I stand by what I said, it’s still dumb! She has the right to be as stupid as she wishes!

What makes you think her choice is "ill advised"?

Because you or someone else says so? Obviously, she doesn't need your advice or your permission.

Because it might make liberals wet their diapers? Good.

You make some good points, but it does seem wrong when we have people like that woman who thought Obama was going to pay her rent voting. Although, for all I know she has a job!

There are plenty of idiots in every walk of life, and I guess we can’t blame the welfare recipients for foisting Obama on us.

I’ve already stated why I think it is ill advised. I will elaborate for you now.
She has decided to make a political statement in direct contradiction to the purpose for carrying a weapon. Her capability to defend herself and others is greatly diminished.

Deception, surprise, shock, psychological dislocation are your greatest force multipliers in a criminal encounter, you want to forego that advantage to say “ look at me, I have a weapon “ ?

I will take the element of surprise every time, it leads to fair fight meaning a fight I walk away from. You can have your” political statements and rights”.

I stand by what I said, it’s dumb and ill advised!

There is no way to make such a judgment from a picture. You can guess that it might be a .45; others might guess better. You can guess that she is in a Wal-Mart (because that is what the article said). The article doesn't give her location, or any identity. There are Wal-Marts in several states that have dangerous animals foraging through the parking lot, four-legged and two-legged.

There are parts of this great country where men and women regularly carry firearms, openly and concealed, and none of the local citizens wet their panties because it is such a common and welcome sight.

Perhaps you have spent too much time reading comic books and watching bad TV shows. You know nothing about the person in that picture, and very little about this country.

I agree, the obviousness is not in her favor. If everyone or a good percentage were also open carrying, the specter would not be as precarious. Two perps could take her weapon all too easily in a store like WalMart. Now if she wants to go armed, she should consider an assortment of weaponry, practice with them all and choose which is most appropriate to what she will be wearing and what she will be doing when she leaves home. And she really doesn’t need to be open carrying when it is the exception in her community. There are so many excellent systems for concealed carry available ... and there should be no ‘ask the nanny state for permission to be armed at all times’.

Dear Mr. ninja death touch®

You were the one who called her a well dressed Wal-Mart shopper, not I.
Are you saying you’re a lier? Frankly, I could give a rats ass where she is.
I wouldn’t care if she was law enforcement or not.

The comic book reference was very original, did you think that up all by yourself?

Your kinda creeping me out with all your weenie and wet pantie references, you may want to seek professional help for your fixation. You may be practicing your ninja death touch® a little too much on yourself.

I believe every law abiding citizen of sound mind should be armed, of course that would not include you because of the psychological disorder outlined above.

You be careful with that ninja death touch® , don’t hurt anyone and more importantly don’t hurt yourself.

Wow, what a rant! ... But really, if not for the context of the picture (she’s in WalMart?), don’t you think she’s well dressed with a great looking Kimber cocked and locked on her hip?
