Notre Dame v. Obama and the Compulsion of the Morally Unwilling
ReligiousLiberty.TV ^ | 06/09/2012 | Douglas Kmiec

Spurred by a controversy over a highly restrictive religious exemption which as originally announced had the net effect of mandating Catholic employers to become facilitators of contraceptive practice, the topic of religious freedom continues to roil the early 2012 presidential race. The leadership of the Catholic bishops have called the skirmishing a “war.” Now, the golden-helmeted forces of the University of Notre Dame have come onto the field of battle, asking the judiciary to protect the religious freedom of Our Lady’s university from the President who – over great controversy – was awarded an honorary degree from the institution often considered the Catholic Harvard.

This is indeed very strange.

Kmiec knows very well that Obama, through overt deceit and coercion, is presenting a direct threat to the very existence of Catholic institutions nationswide that heal the sick, care for the poor and disadvantaged, and educate our next generation. He knows this. He knows it. The deceit, the coercion, the cold threat of "I will destroy you" are all there.

And yet Kmiec still calls himself Obama's friend and supporter.

Seriously: is he out of his mind?

He was bought with an ambassadorship. I guess he figures he has to stay bought.

More important to him than being bought at the price of the Precious Blood, I guess.

It sounds as if Mr. Kmiec genuinely believes that the Obama administration can bring to fruition the Workers’ Paradise, if only the overwrought Bishops will give him a break.

In other words, yes, he is nuts.

I think he is a totalitarian socialist. He might feel a little sad that his ideology demands the suppression of religious liberty, but hey, you don’t make an omelette without breaking a few eggs, right?

Well, in truth, St.Thomas was a courtier himself, who was a friend of the king until he was forced to make a choice. Obama has backed way from the matter enough to give the liberal bishops cover, they hoping that SCOTUS will relieve them of the necessity of making a choice. A significant number of bishops remain chaplains to the Democratic Party, and will be until they croak.

Kmiec’s claim to fame is his embracing of barack Obama’s candidacy and joining his 2008 campaign as a “Catholic voice” which justified voting for a man who was blatenly anti-christian and anti-life.

Kmiec gave scandal to many Catholics by inducing them to sin by voting for an anti-Christian and anti-life candidate. It is diffucult to take him seriously and to respect his opinion.
