Is it blatant racism aimed at Asians? Or targets of opportunity because Asian business owners are more likely to be found in the 'hood?

I don't know the answer. But I've lived among Asians long enough to know that certain customs such as lack of eye contact which they see as polite and not intruding into someone's private space is seen as rude by certain aggressive American groups.

Actually it is seen as timid and submissive. A predator sees this as a mark of an easy victim.

For the most part, newly arrived Asians who own businesses tend to keep most of their earnings either on site, or at home. There is a general distrust of governmental agencies and banks are not seen as being trustworthy. In conducting gang crimes investigations, black gangs (even Asian ones) tend to target Asian business owners either at work, at home or between transit. Reporting a crime is also looked down upon in Asian communities. I know that this is a rather large generalization, but having investigated hundreds of these cases has shown this type of pattern.
