Obama administration to offer immunity to up to 800,000 illegals

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration will stop deporting and begin granting work permits to younger illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as children and have since led law-abiding lives.

The policy change, described to The Associated Press by two senior administration officials, will affect as many as 800,000 immigrants who have lived in fear of deportation. It also bypasses Congress and partially achieves the goals of the so-called DREAM Act, a long-sought but never enacted plan to establish a path toward citizenship for young people who came to the United States illegally but who have attended college or served in the military.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano was to announce the new policy Friday, one week before President Barack Obama plans to address the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials’ annual conference in Orlando, Fla. Republican presidential challenger Mitt Romney is scheduled to speak to the group on Thursday.

Under the administration plan, illegal immigrants will be immune from deportation if they were brought to the United States before they turned 16 and are younger than 30, have been in the country for at least five continuous years, have no criminal history, graduated from a U.S. high school or earned a GED, or served in the military. They also can apply for a work permit that will be good for two years with no limits on how many times it can be renewed. The officials who described the plan spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss it in advance of the official announcement.

They are NOT Americans.

Everyone on the globe who manages to sneak in is now effectively an American, with all the rights of a legal citizen.

No debate, no discussion, no accountability - Der Fuehrer has declared it so. Finis!

"He don't need no stinkin' CONGRESS, or Constitution!"

Congress won't do anything about it since they are as much gutless cowards as Barry is a traitor to the United States.

Sad to say, George Bush and the republicans in congress set the stage for this.

If Dubya (and others) had firmly enforced immigration laws to the full extent of his responsibility as president, Obama would not have such an easy time breaking the law today.

Does anyone doubt that Dubya would have done the same thing if he could have gotten away with it?

Neither party is serious about enforcing immigration laws.

By not enforcing immigration laws, Republicans are stupidly allowing pandering democrats to slowly accumulate enough of a hispanic voter base to the point they will soon have a near unbeatable majority.

Just fired off a brief note to my congressman, Tom McClintock, urging a response by our congressional leaders (who are under direct assault by this), and to urge an emergency stay by the US Supreme Court until it can evaluate the constitutionality of the action of the executive branch.

Standing up for LAW and the CONSTITUTION just doesn’t sell as well on Oprah, or The View, as unassailable victims, or FREE S**T FOR EVERYBODY!!

Two years ago, 60,000 babies were born in Texas to mothers who were here illegally. These babies are now citizens.

http://www.dallasnews.com/news/state/headlines/20100807-Across-Texas-60-000-babies-3859.ece

Between 2001 and 2009, births to illegal immigrant women totaled 542,152 in Texas alone.

I agree. Nothing lays bare the fact that most Americans lack representation in Washington DC better than this issue.

They simply don't care what most of us (shown in poll after poll) want.

They mentioned Rubio on Fox News in connection with this.

I do think it hurts Rubio.

He’s very young and probably has a future years from now when all this is sorted out.

But, for now, I’d avoid him like the plague for veep if I were Romney.

'The treason party vs the coward party assuming Romney even really objects to this which I doubt.'

Huh? Have not, year after year, both parties have done nothing about securing the border and enforcing the law. Now, we get this. As to be expected of traitors, all of them.
