Romney Screws the Pooch on Immigration

Okay, maybe that wasn’t the best metaphor, but he fumbled an important opportunity. The problem with the president’s amnesty decree is not that it “makes it more difficult to reach that long-term solution because an executive order is, of course, just a short-term matter — it can be reversed by subsequent presidents.” The problem is that it’s u-n-c-o-n-s-t-i-t-u-t-i-o-n-a-l. You would expect Allen West and Steve King to be forceful in denouncing this usurpation, but even Amnesty John McCain and Rick “you don’t have a heart” Perry were strong. Heck, Lindsey Graham — Lindsey Graham — denounced the move as “possibly illegal.” And the fact that Romney didn’t answer when asked if he’d reverse the order is an especially bad sign.

I know all those who’ve been accusing me of being in the tank for Romney will say “I told you so,” but my distress isn’t really about his views on the policy issue at hand — he seemed to endorse Rubio’s as-yet-not-introduced revision of the DREAM Act, which I’m pretty sure I won’t like. I’m appalled because this is a fundamental matter of our political order

How about Romney state that he believes in a comprehensive review of our immigration policy towards the Mexicans, because that’s what we are talking about, and then come up with some suggestions.

You're advocating amnesty for illegal aliens, pure and simple. That crap doesn't play on the right, and never on Free Republic.

I read the article. Did you? Lots of the pro-amnesty RINOS seem to be out there all wee-weed up against Obama. Congressman King (whoever he is) is filing a lawsuit. Since Myth, sadly, is the chosen one..the others in the party will do the dirty work so he won’t have to come out and and make a difinitive statement. Heck...he might incriminate himself if he does. It happened during the primary...it is happening now.

Even if impeachment proceedings were brought against the One in the House (not likely) they would never be confirmed in the Senate.

I read what was posted here, but I didn't follow the link because I don't need a reporter to do my thinking for me, or to interpret this event. I'm more than capable of doing that for myself.

Romney gave the wrong response today. That is the bottom line. He proved that he's a left-leaning moderate, who's entirely comfortable with Congress passing some sort of legislation that gives a form of legality to the children of illegals (who were born outside this country).

Sarah Palin, on the other hand, responded appropriately, and immediately. She rightfully condemned Obama for what he's done, and called him on the carpet for blatant pandering to Hispanics for their votes:

Sarah showed real leadership, not calculated political side-stepping, like Mitt.

I don’t think Romney blew it, but he’s definitely making it a much closer race than it should be. Jimmy Carter was more of a real president than Obama can be, and that’s saying something. This election should be a total blow out. The president lied to get elected. He played the moderate, hope and change stuff to the limit, and the media covered for him. Now, however, you’d have to be living under a rock to not know how radical and un-American Obama really is. He’s got the illegal immigrant, radical feminist, homosexual, and prole votes, but he’s even pissing off evangelical blacks. Now if Romney was a decent candidate...ah...but we know he’s a joke. The question is, is he a bigger joke than Obama? I’d say no.

They already blew it when the moderates and party establishment types (I repeat myself) pushed Romney across the nomination finish line. I hate to say it, but the presidency is lost to conservatives for at least four more years and probably more. Romney will likely win only because Obama is THAT bad, but Romney seems totally incapable of making the hard decisions to save this country. That’s the political reality as I see it. On a good note, I don’t think this can go on much longer. We are indeed a wealthy nation, but sooner or later government will indeed by broke. I would have preferred a soft landing, but I think the die is cast my FRiend.
