This is the most profound paradox of the illegal immigration issue. Third world hell holes are the product of a blatant disregard for the rule of law. Those that come here illegally generally do so precisely because we are (or at least have been) a nation of laws, but they expect us to blatantly disregard the ones that govern their behavior.
Change "expect" to "demand".
And that disregard for the rule of law is perpetuated by those at the top. Not those at the bottom. And, I hate to say it, but it's also aided and abetted by most, if not all of the developed world. By some warped sense of duty we continue to send foreign aid in the form of money, equpiment and food to these hell holes. None of which reach the people we ostensibly wish to aid...rather it all goes to the ruling oligarchies and their armies and other cronies, while their populations continue to starve.
I beleive in the rule of law and know that our adherence to it is one of the things that has made this country great. But the law should be tempered with mercy and compassion.
Those that come here illegally generally do so precisely because we are (or at least have been) a nation of laws, but they expect us to blatantly disregard the ones that govern their behavior.

Really, you think the typical illegal crossing the border has really given it this much thought?
Starve or go to the alleged land of milk and honey. I can’t imagine the thinking process includes much more than that.
