Boehner, Cantor Announce House Fast & Furious Contempt Vote Next Week Posted by Speaker Boehner Press Office June 20, 2012 Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC – House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) and Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) issued the following statement after the House Oversight & Government Reform Committee approved a resolution holding Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt for his refusal to turn over subpoenaed documents related to the Fast & Furious operation:

“Despite being given multiple opportunities to provide the documents necessary for Congress’ investigation into Fast and Furious, Attorney General Holder continues to stonewall. Today, the Administration took the extraordinary step of exerting executive privilege over documents that the Attorney General had already agreed to provide to Congress. Fast and Furious was a reckless operation that led to the death of an American border agent, and the American people deserve to know the facts to ensure that nothing like this ever happens again. While we had hoped it would not come to this, unless the Attorney General reevaluates his choice and supplies the promised documents, the House will vote to hold him in contempt next week. If, however, Attorney General Holder produces these documents prior to the scheduled vote, we will give the Oversight Committee an opportunity to review in hopes of resolving this issue.”

Another delay until next week? They’ll never do anything. Holder and Obama must have something on the republican leadership a la Newt’s extra marital carrying on’s -

There is that insider trading deal - I wonder . . .

Next week, they’ll announce another delay.

the American people deserve to know the facts to ensure that nothing like this ever happens again.

Most laws are made because someone did something stupid and most rules and laws are written in blood so I am sure that some new rules will come out of this. I don’t understand why he doesn’t just give the papers so they can figure out how not to allow this to happen again and get on with the business of the country. This is another drama to keep Obama from fixing the economy or answering for it. Obama and company are probably loving this. Most Americans don’t even understand it or even care.

Why not today or tomorrow?

Because 80% of the time the perp coughs up the requested documents between the time the subcommittee and the full House votes.

To do it any sooner would have given the opposition an argument for the Grand Jury.

I read last week that what got Boehner to go along with the push for contempt was a whistle-blower who’s evidence convinced Boehner there was meat behind the probe. I think they have sufficient evidence to go with it in the House. It remains to be seen whether Grassley can hold the GOP together in the Senate...even though the Senate DNC has control and will never vote for contempt.

So little Miss Johnie is at it again. Delays the vote

WTF are you talking about? What delay? He just scheduled the vote today and there is no indication by him or anyone else that it's going to be delayed.

There’s no hurry. The longer this hangs out there, the more the public will get to know what’s going on. What’s the rush? I’d love to see this still percolating in the news come November.

Most congress critters are fundraising in their districts this week.

They will be there next week to stand in front of cameras and talk when the SCOTUS Obamacare decision is released on Monday.

That wishy-washy statement doesn't sit well with me. The time is past for Holder to cooperate. Holder had his chance to cooperate. Several chances. It is now time to hold him in contempt and put him behind bars.

What this means is that they have incontrovertible evidence or an unimpeachable whistle-blower.

I agree. Boehner was reluctant to let the committee vote proceed as little as two weeks ago. After the whistleblowers and wire-tap info came out, he has been all for it.

Here's an interesting twist: In the vast majority of cases, the perp has coughed up the subpoenaed information after the Committee vote but before the full chamber vote. But Holder can't do that...Executive Priveledge has been cited. How could he possible submit documents he claims are protected by Executive Privelege?

Holder is toast.

The number of DUers suggesting Obama should cut Holder loose is growing. And not many are buying the Bush's fault defense. I expect some Dem votes for the contempt charge.

It won't happen. Holder CAN'T produce the documents...Holder claims they are protected by Executive Privelege. How could he possibly produce docs that he claims are protected?

Holder shot himself in the foot.

I hope they know the date SC will release the verdict, schedule the vote immediately as soon as the result is announced and ....overwhelm the dem system a’la Alynski.

The MSM will be unable to mount a solid defense and when a talking head starts hammering on one, the Repub being interviewed can just say the other is more important and why are they ignoring the issue?

Total spinout by the dems and MSM.

There’s no reason not to give it a full vote today, let alone tomorrow.

There is something called a legislative schedule.
