BOSTON – Tomorrow, Senator John Kerry will visit Fall River to award a $14,453,524 federal grant to the Fall River Fire Department. The new Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant will prevent two fire stations from closing and save 79 firefighter jobs that would have been lost due to local budget cuts.
“Mayor Flanagan, Chief Silvia, and I went full force on this effort because we knew it meant the real difference between saving 79 firefighter jobs and protecting this city or laying off these brave first responders and telling Fall River they’d have to go it alone,” said Sen. Kerry. “FEMA and the Department of Homeland Security heard us loud and clear, and I’m thrilled to be able to come to Fall River and personally deliver on this all-hands-on-deck effort to save critical jobs that protect this city and save lives.”
