Some years ago where I lived four teenagers thought they would have some fun with the little Korean lady in her 40s cleaning up a strip mall martial arts studio at night. She came out of the office, they grabbed a few practice weapons from the studio and came at her.

Less than a minute later the one who was still on his feet apparently ran out screaming for help.

Yes, she was the instructor.

It’s funny that two of the scariest sounds in the world are associated with shotguns. either the hollow chunk of a breech loader closing, or the shick-shick of a pump. Criminals crap their pants and general dickweeds get real nice, real fast.

I used an unloaded bolt action 410 once to break up being robbed by four black guys. I didn’t even own shells for it.

GurkaRifle Gurka

Gurka with a rifle & Kukri.

Little, tough, lethal combination. Don't go there.

The sound of the breech closing is enough to stop anyone sane.

the first and primary lesson is observation and avoiding dangerous situations in the first place

That is 99% of self defense.

One hopes that you (or a qualified instructor) is also teaching her to shoot.

The purpose of the martial arts is to buy enough time to get to your gun.

martial arts skills aren’t going to save your butt in a real street fight.

An ex-con with plenty of experience fighting in and out of prison once told me that the person most likely to win a fight is the person who is the meanest.

I agree. When the one punk pulled his knife she should have capped his ass. Maybe the other punk would have learned his lesson.

As it is now the next time they commit a mugging chances are they will be armed and an innocent person may be killed.

The breech was already closed and it isn’t an impressive sound anyway.

It was simply the assumption that I had the only gun there, that enabled me to control the situation.

one of them pulled a knife...and she left...

Reminds me of when I use to wear the clown pants. One day the black belt asked us 6 lowly brown belts to demonstrate what we would do (and how)we would defend ourselves against a knife attack. We in turn by our belt rank, demonstrated our best moves against a rubber knife street attack from the back, side and front. Sometimes the black belt would ask us why we kicked rather than blocked, but he never showed us HIS best move.

Again, and again we showed our best moves... a kick, a block, a fake, or a punch...The higher belt ranks were smoother and their skills were sharper but the black belt didn't show us what to do, he just asked us to show him what we had learned in the past year.

Finally, after an hour of practice, the black belt faced the imaginary attacker with the rubber knife. We anticipated the learning the "best way" to deal with the knife attack. As the mock attacker advanced on our black belt, our instructor turned and RAN out of the dojo!!

Coming back in he asked us all if we were crazy? The attacker had a knife! The course of action under this scenario was to retreat! He wanted us to learn to use our heads! We learned a lot that day.

She was responsible. She saw an opportunity to end the fight by backing off, so she took it. Her teaching was still in play.

I am all for being armed, but shooting the idiots isn’t always the best answer.

In this case, it happened to work out that way, but one of them did pull a knife. It could've gone real bad, real quick. She was lucky.

Believe it or not, it’s pretty easy to get a CPL in WA. Hopefully she’ll arm herself now.

Psssst! I know I am not allowed to ask, but what race were they?

Good story to read; fits right in with the facts in this thread:

Postcard From Zinnlandia

It’s uncharacteristic for the progressive press of this progressive town [Portland, Oregon] – just what are they progressing toward? – to disclose the racial identity of violent perps, since this could dent the very foundation on which Zinnlandia and all postmodern Western civilization are built on: that all people, and all racial, ethnic, gender and national groups of people, are equal in their proclivities, abilities and merits, and are equally deserving of uncritical acceptance. They just have different “narratives,” you see. But it’s interesting how gingerly the racial identity is mentioned, when it is, with what curious, for a newspaper, waste of words. The story could have opened, after all, “An assault by five black teenagers on a North Portland MAX train this week… etc”.

~~snip~~

And inasmuch as young blacks and ‘Hispanics’ in America produce a widely disproportionate number of criminals, a normal people would demand of its quisling leaders that police and security forces employ crime profiling – including by race, gender, nationality and religion – and that Hispanic criminals be headed off a lot more effectively at the border, rather than courted by US presidential contenders once they have jumped the fence.

But we are still in denial relative to even the first part of the solution, identification. The media are either staying clear of the issue or engaging in its active camouflage. Mute white politicians, police chiefs and judges are being attacked vociferously for the disproportionate number of blacks in prison, as though that, per se, were proof of pervasive white racism rather than of pervasive black criminality.

I don't think I can accept profiling, except maybe young male Muslims who fit other profiles as well. There are just too many good blacks and Hispanics to do profiling.

I think the problems with some blacks and some Hispanics is cultural, not biological. I think the number one problem is Democrats keeping them on the plantation.

Think about how long police response-time is in your neighborhood; consider that 10min is pretty dang fast.

Would you believe consistently under five minutes?

Before you scoff, I live about a mile removed from a State University Extension and the County Sheriff's Department always keeps at least one car in the immediate area. Yes, they have residence dorms.

GtG
