DID ROBERTS GIVE IN TO OBAMA'S BULLYING?
Breitbart.com ^ | 6/28/2012 | JOEL B. POLLAK

As legal scholars study the Supreme Court's decision in the Obamacare case, more and more are concluding that Justice Anthony Kennedy's dissenting opinion, striking down the law in its entirety, was once the majority opinion--and that Chief Justice John Roberts switched his vote at a late stage. If so, it would appear that the Chief Justice may have succumbed to the bullying meted out by President Barack Obama, who attacked the Court in the aftermath of oral arguments in March, when Obamacare seemed headed for certain defeat.

Still in search of an explanation for Roberts' vote, could he really have given into this pressure?

I suspect he was a socialist all along and decided now to show his true colors.

If the Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court can be bullied by a few comments then he is a total wimp.

I’m not discounting the possibility.

I don’t think he needs money.

Threatened?

Probably far fetched. Most likely just caved under the pressure.

” I think he was bought....”

Or threatened. Or maybe he is just a coward.

I seriously doubt that Roberts was bullied by Obama. I think Roberts was angry — as were other justices — in this getting dumped on them. The majority opinion did state that it is not up to the Court to save the American people from the results of their electoral decisions. I think this was Roberts’ way of throwing the onus back on Congress.

Maybe bought in some other way than monetarily..

and yes...possibly with “an offer he couldn’t refuse”...

Maybe CJ Roberts reasoned that he should not go out on a limb to get rid of Obamacare when he knows that both major candidates are in agreement with each other about the next step - either Obamacare or Romneycare. Why should he go to all the trouble of defeating one when his own party wants to elect someone who’ll just recreate substantially the same thing with his name on it?

Given the two nominees, maybe he feels that this is really just a fight over who gets credit for next step toward socialism. Why should he care if the program is named Obamacare or Romneycare if they both mean the same thing?

Maybe it’s our job to vote against both of these socialist liberals.

Legacy, legacy and legacy. Progressive academics write history. I’m told liberals give better parties and awards for “excellence”.

It sure seems that way. I think he absolved his conscience by telling himself that Americans are the ones who voted in the left-wing radical President and Congress?

I think this was Roberts’ way of throwing the onus back on Congress.

By agreeing with frickin' Elena Kagan? That's sure a strange way of going about it.

Roberts knew if the thing went against Obama then the Democrats would totally destroy the Supreme Court. Just as they did Pres Bush, Justice Thomas, and any entity they decide to ruin. And these people would not just do that for a year or two, but for eons. Every day you would hear about the evil SC and the conservatives. Roberts did what he did to save the court - in other words he has no courage.

He knows the Repubs will not do that to the court.

Harriet Miers would have been a saint compared to this.

Apparently Robert’s old law professor predicted he’d uphold Obamacare. So have to assume we were fooled into thinking he is a conservative.

Occam’s razor says that Roberts is a liberal judicial activist. He rewrote legislation to substitute taxes for penalties. I’d bet large money that Occam applies and the only coersion Roberts faced was that of his inner liberal self.
