You can’t claim “no new taxes” when your party doesn’t hold the House (where taxes USED to originate) for a day in your term.
No Republican president between 1955 and 1995 had a Republican-controlled House. That includes twice elected Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan, plus Eisenhower and Bush 41.

Clinton and James Carville, his campaign guru, used Bush's anti-tax pledge against him in a highly effective television campaign blitz, and the senior Bush was history.
Yep daddy Bush ( and his son was just as dumb) thought giving in to the constant pressure by the democrats to raise taxes would be OK and then they stuck it to him ---But still bush lost because of Perot not because Clinton or Carville was so smart
