The United States could destroy the entire Middle East, including Iran, without emptying half the silos on one Trident missile submarine. Modern SLBMs are MIRVed, meaning one missile can destroy multiple cities with much more megatonnage than Hiroshima or Nagasaki. The Iranians have atomic weapons, we have thermonuclear weapons. Anyone here know what the trigger is for an h-bomb?

The trigger of a fusion weapon is a fission weapon.
Only in the center of a fission explosion, can we produce both the temperature and pressure needed to cause fusion.
A thermonuclear weapon has a primary (fission) and a secondary (fusion).

Here is a diagram of the W88 warhead. It has a yield of 455 kilotons. 30 times more powerful than Little Boy dropped on Hiroshima.
