With all the budget problems, you have to wonder how many Tomahawks the subs actually have on board. We were running low back during the Iraq war.
GW I was special. Diego Garcia was supposed to have enough 250lb iron bombs to attack about the southern third of the Soviet Union, yet we used so many of them that they were the biggest theater shortage item. Just about every aircraft and ship crossing the Pacific was used to pick up more of them.
This was when it was decided that unguided munitions were insufficient to our needs, and development of SDBs began in earnest. SDB II is supposed to have better guidance to get around GPS jammers.
btw, I’ve heard some wit who said that we should in future refer to GW I as “GHW”, and GW II as “GW”, for clarity.
