Get out of bed and cut your lawn! Code Compliance officer marched into woman's home and yelled

A woman got the shock of her life when she woke up to find a stranger in her bedroom, yelling at her to wake up because her grass was too long.

Erica Masters was asleep when Columbia County Code Compliance Officer Jimmy Vowell entered her Martinez, Georgia, home without permission to serve a violation notice for her overgrown lawn.

After knocking on the woman's door a few times, Vowell let himself and made his way into her bedroom, which was captured on surveillance video.

‘He let himself in and actually came through the house and into my bedroom. And yelled at me to wake me up, to let me know that I needed to come back outside and sign the violation notice,' Masters told WJBF.COM.

‘I woke up, I didn't have my glasses on or my contacts in and all I see is this big burly figure standing in my doorway. A big, huge guy with a grey shirt. It scared the mess out of me.’

Vowell, who has been placed on administrative leave, will not face criminal charges, it has been revealed.

Most of the time yes... but the second round to the chest happened when he fell on top of her... just one of those freak things.

Kind of reminds me of the joke about the man accused of stabbing another man. When asked his version of the event, the accused stated that he was cleaning his fingernails with his knife when the victim ran around the corner and into his knife. The judge asked, “Yeah... but 17 times”?

He may have just been having flash backs to basic training. He should have made the most of it and gone in banging a trash can.

He has no authority to forcibly enter the house. One less “civil servant” to live on taxpayer pensions.

I agree with you, but there is another side to the story.

Martinez is 83% white & affluent. It likely exists because of white flight from Augusta - 50% black.

These people want to get away from the crime, poor schools, & liberal policies of Augusta. The only way they can protect themselves is to pass strict compliance laws to discourage low class people. I imagine many of their laws are tailored to support this policy, & are overwhelmingly approved of by the citizens of Martinez. These people willingly subject themselves to these onerous laws in exchange for security & quality of life.

Some folks build fences with wood or stone. Others build fences with laws.

In this day & age of overt, unchallenged racism by blacks on whites, one can hardly blame folks wanting to protect themselves, their children & property.

HOAs have the same rules for essentially the same reasons.

It's not a choice I am willing to make - yet, but as I get older and/or the country continues to degenerate, it will eventually be necessary.

He is very lucky he wasn’t shot. And it being Georgia, I would hope that woman would set up some home security devices as well as get herself a gun.

There are now lots of places in the US where you don’t even walk through somebody’s front gate without yelling a greeting. And even then, it’s better to call first.

It’s funny, but we got an inquiry from Jimmy Vowell about two months ago (I own a noise and air quality monitoring company) looking for measurement services in his capacity as a code compliance officer.

I personally left him two messages and never received a reply... Now I’m rather pleased that we never ended up with a client such as him!

I agree that some build fences of brick or stone and others with laws. HOA are the epitome of this. I will never ever live in a HOA and allow neighbors to practice tyranny on each other. I hear philosophers waxing away that the human heart yearns for freedom and liberty. I don’t believe that bull crap for one second. Liberty amongst humans is the exception and tyranny is the rule. People yearn to be told what to think and how to behave and equally yearn to tell everyone else how to behave. The human is a pack animal like the baboon. The baboon is successful because he organizes. The human is successful because he organizes and specializes. The human yearns for cooperation, specialization and division of labor. Tyranny is the most efficient way to get this done. So the human heart yearns for tyranny like he yearns food, shelter and sex.

The Adams, Jefferson, Washington experiment in liberty is an anomaly. Tyranny is the natural state of man, liberty paradoxically requires energy to maintain. Paradoxically because it requires energy to require less control not more.

"Vowell, who has been placed on administrative leave, will not face criminal charges, it has been revealed."

He's an officer of the federally funded, local government, above the law and supported by the invincible, invulnerable political/regulator class of local NIMBYs. Those falsely accusing robbers order local public officials to do anything they want to have done to anyone outside of their established class (generally, what's left of private sector citizens).

Have fun. Enjoy the slide. Bow to your socialist mistress-bosses, even though you'll never see them. They rule both political parties.

"HOAs have the same rules for essentially the same reasons."

Given the nearly universal, general source of income for denizens of HOAs (income from various levels of government and government-dependent services), HOA developments will look much like the uglier parts of Detroit, when the bond collapse and default process is completed.
