Put the next conference in Las Vegas. To hell with SF.

It could happen. Apple pulled out of the annual MacWorld Expo a couple years ago, held at Moscone Center in SF. Attendence dropped real low after that. But I don't think Apple cares what SF thinks, they don't purchase that much from Apple. I used to manage a team responsible for networking there, and the majority of devices citywide were HP/Compaq and Dell. Incidentally, SF was wasteful and recycled very little, most stuff was just dumped in the trash - very non-green.

“How much money does Apple pump into the SF economy?”

Apple recently claimed to have 400 million customer accounts, in 155 countries, in their on-line stores. Customers have downloaded 30 billion apps (many of them free). Apple has paid out $5 billion to developers since they launched their app stores.

Given numbers like these, and the fact that earlier this year Apple had more available cash than the entire U.S. federal government, questions about pumping money into the SF economy are somewhat misplaced. Instead ask how much Apple is pumping into the national and world economy. And ask if it’s enough to offset the money that SF and other RAT-holes drain from the economy.

Now the youts will be trained on pcs like what they will find when they get jobs.

Yeah, not a day goes by that I'm not grateful for all the stuff I learned about PC-DOS 4.0 in high school.

Apple recycles its computers for free, if you take it to an Apple store; if you buy a Mac online, they’ll pay the shipping to get your old PC or Mac recycled. So if it’s too much work to pull the battery out, they’ll do it for you.

The disassembly issue is the only reason Apple doesn’t meet and exceed these standards; they’re at or near the top in RoHS (reduction of hazardous substances) compliance, and those aluminum cases are much more easily recyclable than plastic.

Thanks. That's good to know. For the record, I can't remember if I last posted on this thread from my 5-year old iMac that's still chugging along perfectly or from my week-old iPad3 that I don't know what I ever did without!

I love this guy's overinflated self worth. His ego must have its own vehicle.

"But Chris Geiger, manager of green purchasing at San Francisco’s Department of Environment, said the move could influence policy far outside the city limits. San Francisco is prominent in environmental circles, and many local governments from around the country look to his office for guidance on green purchasing, he said."

It was once thought that the most plentiful element in the Universe was HYDROGEN.

It's not Hydrogen.

It's STUPIDITY.

(and there's a big chunk of it in San Francisco...)

Do you understand how batteries are recycled? They all have cases that have to be “cracked” to get into. The difference is a somewhat bigger piece of material attached to Apple’s batteries. Bid deal.

Further, Apple has put together a pretty impressive computer/electronics recycling program together outside of the corrupt system the curren standards mandate.

So now, if you must replace a battery, they swap the entire back with battery attached. Old battery goes through Apple’s recycling stream. I don’t see an issue. What am I missing?
