Romney may name running mate early in election race

Reuters) - Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney acknowledged on Tuesday he is considering naming his choice to serve as vice presidential running mate earlier than usual to better compete with President Barack Obama.

As they work from a short list of leading Republicans, Romney and his advisers say they are weighing whether he should announce his choice some weeks earlier than the traditional time of around the Republican National Convention, which is to be held in Tampa in late August.

The reasoning, advisers say, is that two candidates would be able to raise more money and engage Obama and Vice President Joe Biden in battle with polls showing Americans closely divided on whether to pick the Republican challenger or Democratic incumbent in the November 6 election.

it looks like a pawlenty or yawn, portman. Can either of them beat the winless joey bite me in the debate? Sarah TKO’d bite me and he is still stammerin’.

He should pick a strong, recognizable, and reliable conservative to balance the ticket. Unfortunately he will likely pick someone like Huntsman. I’m going to have to practice holding my nose some more. This is not going to be an easy election.

No one ever runs for vice president twice (unless they are the incumbent, of course), no one. It would be a poor career move on her part. Now, Palin-Romney, I could get behind.

Romney has not been nominated, how can he (legally) pick a VP before the convention?

Nobody has been OFFERED the VP spot twice before.

Palin can do this.

I sincerely hope above all hope, that she does.

Palin is too ‘radioactive’ so they say.. Portman? One big GIGANTIC YAWN. Condoleeza Rice? An obvious ‘twofer pander’ for the female and black vote. Paul Ryan is the one if HE’S REALLY SERIOUS ABOUT ADDRESSING OUR ECONOMIC WOES AND AS A ‘BUSINESS-FRIENDLY WHITE HOUSE’ gesture (throw in a few female votes for Ryan’s nice hair too).

I'd love Newt.

Newt knows HOW to get things done in Washington.

My next choice is Perry but the party wants to make sure they capture Florida.

Romney needs a southerner.

It’s that old aura of inevitability thing that the left uses so frequently.

That says to me there is concern that it’s not exactly in the bag at the convention.

VPs are almost always picked before the convention. Usually it's the weekend before the convention. Sarah Palin was announced by McCain on Friday, August 29, 2008. Convention did not begin until Monday, September 1.

My thoughts on this with his mini world tour coming up I could see him doing this and bringing the VP along especially when he visits Israel. A little jab and way to emphasize how the VP might have way more upstairs and gravitas than Slow Joe, never mind Slow how about the both of them.

Regardless who he might pick, you can bet your hat and ass the lame-stream, liberal-left media will look into his life so deep, we will know what kind of toilet paper he uses, whether he sleeps in the same bed with his wife, his college scores, doctor and health records, income tax records, personal history, divorce records, social security information, birth information, past girlfriends/boyfriends, pastimes, interests, love affairs (other than wife), alcohol intake, wedding photos, best man at wedding, and the list goes on.

Gee would that not be nice if they did that to the guy whose ass is already sitting in the Oval Office.

Palin is not going to run as VP again and especially for a guy who has expended so much energy in trying to destroying her.

If romney was smart he would pick Sarah, but he won’t. A poor career move? If the commie wins, who gives a crap about a career.

I sure as hell pray that Mittens doesn’t pick Joe Biden’s dumb cousin....Chris Christie.

I don’t know that I can hold my nose twice on election day.
