CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The U.S. Army will not return to Stewart-Haas Racing next season, effectively ending its sponsorship in NASCAR altogether after a decade.

SHR said Tuesday it is pursuing a new sponsor.

...

The Army has been in NASCAR for 10 seasons, ..

...

The decision to leave NASCAR comes as Rep. Betty McCollum of Minnesota and Rep. Jackson Kingston of Georgia are pushing an amendment that would prohibit military sponsorship of sports.

McCollum lost a House vote a year ago to end military sponsorships of NASCAR, professional wrestling and fishing, but is trying again to have the approximately $80 million in sponsorship cut from the defense budget.

McCollum applauded the Army's decision to pull out of NASCAR.

"The Army made the right move to eliminate a wasteful program and protect taxpayer dollars - which has been my goal all along," she said. "Congress is facing a very difficult budget environment, and I want taxpayer dollars protected, even at the Pentagon.

Glad to see she is interested in saving taxpayer money.

Maybe she will push a bill to boot crack whores, brood sows, gang bangers, drug pushers, lazy slugs and illegal aliens off welfare, food stamps and ObamaKare.

Wonder how much advertising on the Olympics will set the U S Postal Service back?

As late as the mid 1980’s, the United States Government used to sponsor NRA High-Power matches through the Director of Civilian Marksmanship (DCM) which was run by an Army Officer in Washington DC. I remember shooting in them then. DCM would issue the shooters a bandolier of Lake City M2 Ball ammunition if we had an M1 Garand, and we were allowed to keep the bandoliers, brass & clips after the match. I still have some of that stuff. Congresswoman Pat Schroeder (D Colorado) had it all closed down because she and her leftist cabal didn’t think it appropriate for the government to give ammunition to civilians. What a country we once had.

To be honest, I'm surprised that they still allow fly overs at NASCAR events. I'm sure they could justify cutting them out on financial grounds.

Look for the other branches to drop out soon and a return to local high schools presenting the colors.

NASCAR will continue to honor the troops regardless of what the administration might mandate through DOD.

“What a country we once had.”

That about says it all; it bears no resemblance at all to when I was the age of my children today. Reagan was president, Communism was evil, deviants stayed under their rocks...

They aren't going to be returning to high schools, that was the first place liberals attacked them. (For recruiting children!!!!!)
