I was at a conference in Boston during the fall of 1989 and we stopped at
Cheers for a meal with our group in the upstairs dining room. We passed by the bar on the way in and I never really thought about it until now, but I think I might have noticed a skinny black kid with big ears having a few beers (
I remember that because he was drinking three different brands - weird) with a postman at the end of the bar. He seemed to be bragging about just becoming the president of something at Harvard, but then made light of it. Since he seemed a bit drunk, I didn't think much about it when he then loudly said that someday he was going to be King of the World.
Anyway we had a nice meal upstairs and on the way out I noticed that he was still there. He was singing an Al Green song to a couple of gay looking guys. If I remember correctly the song was "Let's Stay Together" (© BMG).
