PHOENIX (Reuters) - Opponents of Arizona's tough crackdown on illegal immigration made a bid on Tuesday to challenge a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that will allow police to enforce the so-called show-me-your-papers provision.
A coalition of civil rights organizations asked a federal judge in Phoenix to stay implementation of the key provision of the Arizona law that requires police to check the immigration status of people they stop, the American Civil Liberties Union said.

What rights group was that? The “illegal alien border jumping raiding party” group? What are these illegals going to do when we decide to take over mexico, and declare all illegals as enemy combatants? Mexico is really pushing its luck, and at some point in the near future, their luck is going to run out. It’s a battle between the old line spanish families running things, the drug cartels, and the Americans. One of these parties will gain control, and I’m siding with the party with the most firepower. It’s time to get the mexicans out from under the thumb of their former colonial spanish masters.
These aren’t “Rights” groups these are “Leftists” groups.
I’m sure a lower court federal judge is going to overrule the Supreme Court and halt implementation of the ruling .... wouldn’t want to be that judge.
How do you block a Supreme Court ruling in a lower court?
I dunno, but if they set a precident, we should stop Obamacare in a lower court too.
As your Mexican friends how life would be for their countrymen if instead of sharing a border with the United States Mexico was where Columbia was or Cuba? How do you suppose life would be for them.
Sorry;typo. Meant to say ‘’Ask..’’
Well in theory you can't. But the people who are doing this have never cared about the law.
It's just that this is what they do when they want to overturn laws passed by legislatures and public referenda. They just go running to a friendly judge who will break the law for them. And it will not surprise me at all if they find one who is willing to do it again.
Why are they suing?
Justice Department isn’t answering the phone when it’s an Az area code.
Someone help me. How does a local judge overrule the Supreme Court?
