While much remains unclear about the shooting – which took place 30 minutes from Columbine High School where 13 people were shot to death in 1999 - it is likely to reinvigorate the debate over gun laws. Here are some highlights from the State Patrol’s primer on the state’s gun laws.

Actually, this is a mixed bag in Colorado. The knee jerk reaction following Columbine created a rule requiring an NICS check for all sales at gun shows. There is no such restriction on simple private party gun transfers. The only restriction is that the seller has no knowledge that the purchaser is ineligible to purchase that firearm. This does not require a check or a record.

I do not recall reports of anyone shooting up a police station recently, never heard of a mass shooting at a gun range.
The Ford Hood troops were also disarmed.

In any large population a small percentage of nuts will be on the loose at all times, no matter what draconian laws are in place.
CCW is the nut-cracker that should have been available to stop this tragedy.
The round table discussion on msnbc is all but calling for a total ban on guns. And they’re really demanding Romney “say something”.
Well, all I can say is I hope Romney doesn’t suspend his campaign.
Apparently Colorado has CCW but this theatre didn’t allow it.
I was right.. Sadly.. I posted much earlier that I suspected the theater did not allow guns inside..
One has to wonder. If one of the dead or injured has a CCW permit and would have had it in the theater...
Can they sue?

We in the MSM and on the gun-grabbing left (redundant) hope and pray to Gaia that it will.
Notice the frequent reminders of the massacre at Columbine High School. The other commonality is that in both cases, bombs and/or destructive devices were left behind as part of the plan and in both cases the media focused on refining laws that prohibited possession of firearms and paid no attention to laws affecting destructive devices.
Of course in both cases, the law against murder was ignored too. It seems that lovers of big and Bigger government just cannot recognize the limits of law (it only applies to those who are willing to obey it), as well as refuse to recognize the contribution made by people who are free to protect themselves.
Sadly, as with everything Left (er, now “progressive”), real world events, even horrid ones, are only the components with which to build and sustain the ideological warfare they continually conduct against the rest of us.

You are incorrect. The State Law trumps local law. While the theater can post “No Guns Allowed” legally, the town cannot make gun laws that supercede the state.

look at the recent case of an armed citizen taking out two robbers which was posted here on FR.
This happens every day.
It does not fit the NYC mindset of the reporters. (even FNC is way too NYC to credible)
Colorado has what they call “home-rule law” rules. That means that in some places, local law (home law) trumps State Laws. I don’t know if Aurora is a Home law area or not.
What home laws do, do is create confusion in dispensing justice evenly and trying to figure out what you can and can’t do in any given area is insane. Some places won’t reveal the laws or rules!
Ever been to a town that shuns firearms? I have, doesnt matter one whit what any state law says. You get caught with a firearm and they make it real hard on you. Now you can say all you want, but take it to court if you have enough money to fight it...most people dont. Consider this..the local court leans towards the local authority. So you have to file all the way up the chain to fight it. Maybe some have enough money to do this, but folks like me dont. So we move.

There are also cases where local municipalities pass such BS laws which they KNOW are illegal but do it just to give police state power to police and “let the judge sort them out”. A “just in case” we need tyranical power law.
FL did it best. If a municipality passes such a law, the elected officials are CRIMINALLY LIABLE and must affirmativly take such laws off the books or go to jail.
