Those numbers include the acetaminophen but don’t give the amount of hydrocodone.

Vicodin contains a combination of acetaminophen and hydrocodone.

Usual Adult Dose for Pain
Initial dose:
1 tablet (acetaminophen/hydrocodone 500 mg-5 mg) orally every 6 hours as needed or
10 mL (acetaminophen/hydrocodone 333 mg-5 mg) oral elixir every 6 hours as needed or
15 mL (acetaminophen/hydrocodone 325 mg-10 mg) oral solution every 4 to 6 hours as needed or
15 mL (acetaminophen/hydrocodone 500 mg-10 mg) oral elixir every 4 to 6 hours as needed.
11.25 mL (acetaminophen/hydrocodone 300 mg-10 mg) oral elixir every 4 to 6 hours as needed.
Many different combination dosage forms of acetaminophen-hydrocodone are commercially available. In general, combinations with 5 mg of hydrocodone are given 1 to 2 doses every 4 to 6 hours, up to 8 doses per day. Combinations containing 7.5 or 10 mg of hydrocodone are given once every 4 to 6 hours, up to 5 or 6 doses per day (depending on how much acetaminophen they contain).
This “fact” is about as relevant as whether the killer ate cereal for breakfast or had eggs instead on the morning of the crime.
OK, thanks for the dosage explanation.
I knew about the tylenol issue.
I know people who take large amounts of pain killers. It certainly screws up their life.
I heard he injected himsself with vicodin on the news.
Maybe they meant Oxycontin. The delayed release tab comes in various amounts of Oxyxodone, up to 80 mg max.
What about banning movie theaters and schools?
Other pain med preparations especially oxycodone, have 325mg acetaminophen for this reason.
I didn't think it was "impossible" to take 100mgs of high dose vicodin, just unlikely. He might have been ok doing it once, but chronically? His liver would be damaged at that level.
My guess is he probably said he took some vicodin and "estimated" 100mg. Then the story was off and running.
LOL!
HMMM. Interesting, the news is lying, covering up - surely they could get that one med he took correctly if they wanted to.
Wonder if they told him or he had the Rx bottle on him.
Glad you liked it. There were a lot of layers there.
There is no blood test that will do that. Even if you could precisely measure the level of hydrocodone (vicodin is a combination of 2 drugs hydrocodone and acetaminophen) the metabolism rates vary so widely in individuals there would be no way to make that extrapolation
The active ingredient hydrocodone comes in 5-10 mg allotments. To take 100 mg of hydrocodone, the amount of Tylenol ingested would cause liver failure. In addition, unless one took high dose narcotics regularly and built a tolerance, 100 mg of hydrocodone would render one comatose or dead. Even someone routinely on high dose narcotics would likely be too sedated to pull of what the perp did after ingesting that amount of narcotic. Nothing about the report makes sense
Tylenol ain’t gonna kill ya and there are variants of the vicadin pill that have lower acetaminophen levels. The federal Max is 325mg now. That’s 3225 mg of acetaminophen. That won’t hurt a young man like this. Just speculating on the amount and dosage. Certainly not liver failure as you suggest. That’s a side effect from prolonged use and high doses. My grandmother for instance takes an average 1400mg of acetaminophen in her pills. They test her regularly for kidney and liver function.
