If the ChiComs sunk a carrier? Our nukes would be flying within minutes, and in overwhelming strength. You may not believe it but it doesn’t matter two bits who is in power at any given time. You sink a US nuclear naval asset and you might as well has nuked a major US city—from the perspective of retaliation they are identical.
