Generally that would be true for Republicans. But I’ve would never expect the press to accept that kind of offer from Republicans. In fact, it would be a huge scandal were the offer made.
I would think Zero’s concern is more that he pops off without a teleprompter and that he only wants to be quoted when it’s part of the focus group tested messaging. And by and large the press is good with that.

Therefore it is better to ignore the newspaper, better to be uninformed and aware that you are than to be misinformed and unaware that you are.
You’re over-thinking this one. All a reporter has to do is pull out a tape recorder, turn to the person and say, “Do you mind if I tape the interview?” In that situation all the quote will be correct.
