This is outrageous. As an ex-US Navy sailor, a US Naval vessel never dips its colors to another ship except in response to a salute, or after the foreign ship dips its colors first.

Not even then. Ships don’t dip to other ships. The only time we dip is when nearing Arlington Cemetery in honor of those who died to defend our flag.

Oops. My bad. We (Navy ships) do answer the dip but don’t initiate. Sorry.... yikes it’s been a long time :0)
