'What a car crash... worse than Sarah Palin': British politicians' fury at Romney's..
UK Daily Mail ^ | July 27, 2012 | Toby Harnden and Thomas Duarte

Posted on 07/27/2012 6:00:55 AM PDT by C19fan

Top political figures in Britain have been queuing up to criticise Mitt Romney after he kicked off his first foreign tour by publicly questioning whether London would be able to run the Olympics smoothly. The most high-profile humiliation came when thousands of Brits jeered him after London's Mayor Boris Johnson mocked him at a concert to mark the end of the Olympic Torch relay. However, behind the scenes officials were even more scathing about the Republican presidential hopeful, describing his visit as a 'car crash' and comparing him unfavourably to Sarah Palin. Another official who met with the former Governor of Massachusetts said he was 'apparently devoid of charm, warmth, humour or sincerity'.

I prefer Romney would have said this: “I’m not sure why we would trust the Olympics to the British. The British are inbred, dyslexic, cancer-causing syphilletic queers and half-bred morons, pedophiles, and junkies. My first act will be to launch nuclear weapons at Newbold-on-Avon, near Coventry. Damn the British. May they all burn.”

So what “gaffes” have Sarah Palin committed against the stiff-arsed Brits?

The stiff upper lip is a historical relic. These days, they're a bunch of old ladies whining endlessly about one perceived slight or another. There was a time when they were too busy getting things done to worry about unpalatable facts stated by foreign dignitaries. Those days are obviously long gone.

>> Capital job there Willard. At least you provided lots of material for the British tabloids. How pathetic this man is the best the Republican party can come up with.

Yeah. God forbid someone tells the truth...gives an HONEST answer instead of a political one...says what they REALLY think instead of what people want to hear...and says what MOST PEOPLE are already saying.

Pu...lease. The only way for a republican to win in such a situation is to 1) Lie or 2) Never speak. They are the media. Their JOB is to destroy the republicans. THAT is where he erred. I listened to NPR's take on this yesterday (All Things Considered) and the British guy said this was a tempest in a tea-cup...and that a lot of Brits had raised the same concerns.

Speaking of the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics.....

One of the snot-nosed Brits who critized Mitt Romney on ABC World “News” Tonight called Salt Lake City “the middle of nowhere.”

The saving and profit came from massive taxpayer (federal) subsidies, and the winter Olympics are a fraction of the scale of the summer games.

UK Media whorenalists are even more overtly partisan Obama cheerleaders than the USA media

Toby Harnden is no leftist nor Obama apologist. He's not been shy at all in pointing out the failures and hypocrisies of the Obama team. I do not know about the other author of the piece, Thomas Duarte.

Actually, Cameron made that statement first. Of course, the media is not hitting back because he's friends with Barrack Hussein Mugabe.

I have to say as a Brit and extremely lukewarm supporter of Romney (last choice he was for me), I was quite surprised that this made such headlines here.

There are two sides to this.

The stupidity and hypocrisy of our media.

Romney could have shot down every one of these Nazi reporters by simply saying that is it the British press that has been stoking fears of the olympics for weeks, so why the hell shouldn’t he speak out on it? It wasn’t as if it was a stinging criticism, it was in fact perfectly valid and tame in comparison to what the talking heads, these turn coat speaking heads have been saying.

On the other hand, it shows for me a huge flaw in him personally and in his campaign management.

It obviously will have no traction in the campaign and rightly so...but consider for a minute, despite his love in with the equally dispicable Cameron, Obama has been possibly the most anti British leader in history.

A golden opportunity to make good that damage and project the traditional closeness and enjoy a magnificent event (I’m personally not that interested in the Olympics but I wouldn’t deny it has beenhugely popular here), and what does he do? He makes a couple of stupid comments, he calls the leader of the opposition ‘Mr Leader’ and lets the media hound him like he’s the next George W Bush.

If he is as poorly prepared against an even more anti media, the American media, he is in for a lot of trouble and silly headlines he could easily avoid.

If you’re going to make a snarky comment, grow some damn balls and go all in, and show you’re a fighter and not the equivalent of an old man moaning at the bus stop. It just looks stupid.

Even among so called “conservatives” in Europe (yes, including Britain) there's a basic contempt for the US.They see us as a nation of knuckledraggers with no teeth.IOW,their “conservatives” are at least as bad as,if not worse then, our “progressives”.

That's a shame. Archery is one event that Great Britain should be world beaters in.

“IF the British truly prefer the Obama foreign policy...”

It is important to remember that Cameron and this bunch of British ‘conservatives’ are anything but conservative...they might not even be to the right of Obama, politically speaking. Never get caught in the trap of thinking that the British have ‘conservative’ politics.

And let this be a lesson...we have become so tainted in this country by the persistance of the left that the ‘right’ in politics here is continuously becoming more like the left. Romney, for instance. And McConnell. And Boehner. And you each can add your own names to this list.

We absolutely have to elect the most conservative candidate for each office, and we have to find and encourage real conservatives to run, then support them to elect them.

The so-called 'gaffe' is a ginned-up hit piece against Mittens but the Massachusetts Moderate has some work to do on his curb appeal.

There’s a type of Tory that’s never been very enthusiastic about the USA. Neville Chamberlain was one.

1—Given the debacle of 1996, I’d think Americans would think twice about Olympics mistakes. Clearly not.

2—’Britain is a petty, small-minded nation that is incredibly resentful of America. We saw it in the Iraq War, we saw it with how they treated George Bus, we saw it with how they treated Sarah Palin and we see it now. I could care less what they think.’

No, we not petty minded or small minded. We are a proud nation. Just like you.

Iraq?. You mean that war that we fought alongside you in, as we did and do in Afghanistan?. Gee, thanks for the thanks for fighting and dying alongside you. With people like you, I wonder why we bother.

Resentful of America?. Why?. We were the greatest superpower on earth for nearly 300 years, and we remain a major power. We built much of the modern world, and continue to contribute to the world way beyond our population and size. No great power lasts forever, ours didnt, yours wont. Believe me, we Limeys really dont give a toss what Americans think of us. You like us, great. You dont, well you are only one nation.

How arrogant to think the British viewpoint on the world is tied to what we think of America. Newsflash mate, there is a whole world out there. And most of it isnt America.

3—’I could care less what they think.’

Fine. Dont ever come here. We prefer Americans who respect us.

This is so stupid that even Obama fans can figure out what is going on here. The “One world government” supporters are making sure to take Mitt down on his “foreign relations” because that is the ONLY thing that polls say Obama doesn’t suck at. Did you notice that 2 of the 3 debates center around foreign policy. Why? Sure looks orchestrated when you connect the dots. BTW the debate schedule and topics also came out this week and Romney gets hit on his trip abroad a few days later? things that make you go Hmmmm...

How can they possibly blame Romney if something happens?

Have you ever seen a British Tabloid? They could make Mother Theresa into Josef Stalin.
