WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama said Friday he is releasing an additional $70 million in military aid for Israel, a previously announced move that appeared timed to upstage Republican rival Mitt Romney’s trip to Israel this weekend.
As he sought to underscore his commitment to Israel, the president first said the increased aid totaled $70 million, then said the number was actually $70 billion, even though the smaller figure is correct.

Heard this on Fox this morning and immediately wondered what the catch was.
Stop spending money Obama. For God’s sake this guy is a jerk. We do not have money for you to be giving it to every nilly willy who needs money. We need to take care of ourselves first.....Again 60 million could and should go towards our debt even if it is only 15 minutes worth of debt interest. I am so sick and tired of these countries getting our borrowed China money. It is digusting!!!!!

If Mitt is quick he can say “See? I got you more aid just by coming here...” or somesuch.
Timing is important. Romney should stroke a check for $75M.
Obama continues to turn his back on our Israel, our Greatest friend in the world. The 70 million is an insult to Israel.
More is needed and Obama will let Israel continue to suffer.

Nobody, least of all Netanyahu, is fooled by this crass opportunism.
This is obvious pandering, and doing so with money that doesn’t belong to him.
However, as a supporter of Israel I am far more interested in an answer from Fauxbama’s administration as to the location of Israel’s capital than in ANY amount of money.
So Obama tryes to upstage a visit by Bibi Netanyahou by announcing ‘...a return to the pre-1967 borders..’ and follows up with an attempt to upstage Romney’s visit with cash. Yeah, I go it.
Wait until we discover the fine print attached to the aid... probably is restricted so it can only be used to provide condoms to gay pre-teens or something.
It is not his money, he dosen’t care.
Din’t just give the Arabs in Egypt 1.5 billion? Hmmmm.
Sure, Obama is going to give them 70 million. And he promises to visit them in person just as soon as he wins the next election. And he won’t even acknowledge Israel’s capital city, the heart of Israel, the city of The Great King.
