Students Across U.S. Demand Removal of Chick-fil-A From Campus

Students from seven schools across the country have launched petitions on Change.org demanding removal of Chick-fil-A franchises over the company’s anti-gay stance.

From Change.org:

WASHINGTON, DC – Students from seven schools across the country have launched petitions on Change.org in the past 48 hours demanding the removal or prevention of Chick-fil-A franchises on their campuses following this week’s media blitz over the fast food chain’s public stance against same-sex marriage.

The petitions target officials at the University of Illinois, University of Kansas, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, Ball State University, College of Charleston, Wichita State University, and Minnesota State University.

“In the last several days, the president of Chick-fil-A, Dan Cathy, reaffirmed the company's anti-gay marriage stance and their allocation of funds to support organizations countering the marriage equality movement,” wrote James Castle, a recent graduate of KU, in his petition on Change.org. “Because Chick-fil-A's stance on gay rights could create a hostile environment for queer youth and allies, having a Chick-fil-A on campus deeply conflicts with The University of Kansas Mission on Values and the Chancellor's and Provost's personal commitments to diversity at KU.”

Last week, a media firestorm erupted when it was revealed that Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy told a radio interviewer that “as it relates to society in general, I think we are inviting God's judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say, 'We know better than You as to what constitutes a marriage’... I pray God's mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we would have the audacity to try to redefine what marriage is all about."

Chick-fil-A’s charitable arm, The WinShape Foundation, has long been a supporter of organizations that aim to ban same-sex marriage. Through WinShape and direct charitable donations, Chick-fil-A is reported to have given more than $2 million to anti-gay groups.

The student-led movement to block Chick-fil-A from college campuses began last fall when students at 11 schools launched petitions on Change.org after a similar round of media coverage. One such student at Northeastern University started a Change.org petition that, after gaining just over 600 signatures, helped in stopping Chick-fil-A from opening a restaurant on its campus. Another student at New York University launched a petition on Change.org that attracted nearly 15,000 signatures, sparking protests against Chick-fil-A’s presence that continue to roil the campus.

Evidently these ‘students’ have never had a class on The First Amendment and Religious Freedom.

Also sounds like a heck of a lot of campuses may be looking at a collective class action law suit. regarding discrimination of same.

“Have we lost the youth? If so how?”——

Perhaps through not enough focus on social conservative principles, and too much focus on fiscal conservatism.

Man does not live by bread alone. It is the social concerns which make us human.

I think the gays would prefer going to Dick-Fil-A....I’ll leave it to you to determine what the “A” stands for.

You could get rich if you copyrighted that slogan... Next time warn us ahead to avoid coffee being sprayed all over the keyboard.

“A successful business man expresses his religious beliefs and now his company is being banned?”

It’s OK, it’s for gay rights.

We now can base our business licensing on the religious beliefs of the owner. That’s been illegal and immoral since May 7, 1945, so this really is a big deal.

They are people with different lifestyles and opinions than us - therefore they must be removed and replaced only with people who adhere to only our approved list of beliefs and lifestyle views that conform to our own so that diversity can be preserved.

After a couple years of not being able to get a job with their degrees, these idiots will be more than happy to fry chicken at CF.

I agree.

And some of these petitions on Change.org are so hubristic it kills me, such as:

“Chick-fil-A: We demand the Chick-fil-A executive apologize and change his position”

http://www.change.org/petitions/chick-fil-a-we-demand-the-chick-fil-a-executive-apologize-and-change-his-position

Okie, riiight, he’s going to change his life-long views because you kids demand it. Okie.....

For these nit-wits, diversity = liberal PC values - All Christian and conservative bigots need not apply.

If you look at their latest petitions, every single Gay Rights petition now concerns Chick-Fil-A.

They have found a scapegoat. Why aren’t they asking if Herman Cain’s Godfather’s Pizza supports same sex marriage???

I hope these smug self-righteous brats are aware that Farrakhan’s group and Islam oppose homosexuality, and the Muslims oppose it rather definitively.

If they succeed in ousting CFA, it will affect the franchisee more than the CFA corporation. I’m guessing that the stores aren’t company owned.

Im also guessing that the CFA stores have a contract with the colleges, and not the students, which would render the “petitions” a moot point.

If the campus stores are just satellite loans of stores owned by the same franchisee, the should just announce that the are closing the campus locations. Sometimes, when being pushed, moving you hand and letting your opponent fall on their faces is the best defense. They could claim “closed for remodeling” and see what happens in 90 days or so.

Most of this is college faddism and symbolism over substance malarkey. Among a lot of the OWS-minded “students” being gay is the “new cool”, and they follow the crowd.

Unless it's the 'Jerry Sandusky' kind of homosexuality, that's perfectly okey-dokey with them.

These students would be better concentrating on their studies instead of trying to suppress freedom of expression.

Their future Chinese and Indian competitors are busy learning differential equations while our students participate in discussion groups expressing their disdain for the First Amendment.

That poster would be a violation of the trademarks for Chick-Fil-A.

Meanwhile, I bet most of these schools are public schools, and therefore would not be able to remove a restaurant on this basis.

I do expect that on some campuses, the kids will decide not to eat there anymore. Next will be pressure on theme parks, which I’ve always been amazed at having Chick-fil-a, since sunday is a major theme park day and the restaurants are closed on Sunday.

Interestingly, in ALL the discussions, nobody really has pointed out to these pro-gay intolerant haters that most Chick-Fil-A restaurants are INDEPENDENTLY OWNED and OPERATED. they follow the rules about Sunday, but they make their own decisions about what local charities to support.

It is really scary that college-age adults could so easily and glibly demand that a man change his convictions because they disapprove. It makes me think of the Hitler Youth.

Not much of a surprise at Minnesota State University (I did my graduate work there). This is the same university that used student funds a few years ago to put Muslim foot baths into the Student Union building restrooms. Catholics, Lutherans and other denominations have to go to off campus student centers for religious services, but Muslims students can use the Student Union building and not have to trudge across campus in the cold Minnesota winter for their worship.
