The only other military defeat that America suffered was by Britain in the War of 1812, but Britain was the world's leading super power in that time.

Huh, I thought we won the war of 1812.

America’s goal in 1812 was to seize Canada, and it failed in that mission. But you are right, “defeat” is too strong a world for the War of 1812. That war was a draw, similar to the Korean War of the 1950s.

This actually strengthens my point. Cheney played a major role in the only military defeat that America has ever suffered in her history. Americans who were alive in that time, can never forget the TV images of helicopters being pushed from transport ships into the sea, to make space for people who were fleeing from the Vietcong. America has never fully recovered from the humiliation of Vietnam, and Cheney owes our Vietnam Vets an apology for ending a war that America was winning.

Our good friends in American claim a victory for America in that war. My adopted country Canada also claims victory for Canada. The British historians say it was a draw. I will go with a draw. Each side withdrew to the boundaries prior to the war. One tiny exception though.

Of course the greatest victory over the British was at the Battle of New Orleans (1815). The peace treaty with America had already been signed on neutral territory. This was Ghent in Belgium. Communications took too long to get to New Orleans.

I hope you do not mind this ramble. Extensive recreations in Canada this year of the war. One tiny island near us, the Drummond Island. Michigan was occupied by the British up until 1827. Nice museum near there. The Americans delivered a polite note. Gentlemen, they said, if you do not vacate Drummond Island quickly, the next time we will come well armed. Bye bye to the last remaining occupied part of America.

Just thought a little history is in order. Oh, surprised and disappointed with Mr Cheney. Sarah Palin is the gold.
