Homeless Man Found With Weapons Cache, List Of Names In SF Golden Gate Park
CBS San Francisco ^ | Aug 1, 2012 | Jeffrey Schaub

San Francisco Police displayed an array of high power weapons and ammunition Wednesday that were found in a homeless man’s car last month in Golden Gate Park.

Officers had prior contact with the man, but Chief of Police Greg Suhr ended up defending his department even though the suspect got past them with a large amount of weapons.

KCBS’ Jeffrey Schaub Reports:

SF Police Chief Defends Officers After Homeless Man With Cache Of Weapons Slipped Through The Cracks When police found a huge cache of guns, knives, a shotgun, 5,800 rounds of ammunition and camouflage gear in Robert Johns’ car on July 21st it was thought they may have diverted some kind of planned attack.

Also in that vehicle was a list of names of political leaders, reportedly including President Barack Obama.

It turned out to be Johns’ second arrest. In late June police took him into custody for having weapons in his car, but were more concerned about his mental health. John was evaluated and then later released.

If the guy had a .338 rifle, a wind meter and a detailed itenerary for POTUS, I can see them getting a bit wound up about him.

Well I would not go that far. Ronald Reagan was shot and nearly killed by John Hinckley Jr. with a .22 caliber pistol. Hardly a big bore magnum.

Lincoln was killed by a Derringer (.65 caliber I think) lethal only at point blank range.

McKinley was shot with a .32 caliber hand gun; again not an imposing weapon.

What makes a assassin credible is like you say is his planning capability and his likelihood of getting close enough.

If the guy is homeless I have to question his ability to plan. If you can’t plan well enough to keep a roof over your head I doubt your ability to plan a credible assassination plot.

Look at the size of that arsenal...This domestic terrorist could hold off an entire herd of squirrels with that weaponry...

If he was an illegal or was going to vote democrat in the upcoming election they would not have bothered to check his ID and said, “have a nice day”

“Homeless man”? Think about it, the guy looses his job due to economic times, more than likely due to Obummers policies. He takes up residency in his car, the only thing he has left besides a few guns he collected over the years.

When this is all over, he will be back on the street, only the police will have stolen his last few possessions, those that he thought he was guaranteed to be able to keep by the highest law in the land, the Constitution. He has no means to fight them legally.

The San Francisco government will have created someone with real reason to hate them.

That shotgun must be HIGH POWERED because it is black! That belt with holsters is black also - very scary.

Funny, I thought is was an assault rifle, without the magazine thingy installed.

Thank you for clearing that up. I'm still afraid, only not as much now.

I think the pistol is a Tokarev.

I don't think so. The picture from the side shows a grip wide enough to be a double stack. I'm thinking maybe a Hi-Power or clone. Not that it matters a great deal.

That was my thought. Maybe a Stallard or HiPoint.

"Oh, he had a "list" of some sort that included POTUS"

Most likely a 'Rat voting cheat sheet thrown down by the cops.

He has a "tell" that indicates when he's lying. If you watch carefully you'll see that whenever his lips move he's lying.

In the linked picture, Robert Johns has sad eyes.

Looks like it’s over!

I think he knew there’d come a day, when he and his cache would have to say “goodbye”.

Holy carp! Looka the size of that huge, enormous arsenal taken from the fanatic’s bunker (also known as his car trunk). I’m surprised they didn’t open a brick of .22 ammo and make little domino lines around the table. What happened (in the English language) is that a homeless guy had his last few possessions stolen by the SF cops. Pathetic.

More info here. Explains their interest in him better. Two firearms caches, odd behavior...
