A Mitt Romney loss wouldn’t necessarily be a disaster
The Daily Caller ^ | August 3, 2012 | Matt K. Lewis

Posted on 08/03/2012 1:26:47 PM PDT by Bratch

Don’t buy the doom and gloom pronouncements from conservatives telling you, “this is the most important election in history.” A loss for Mitt Romney would not necessarily spell long lasting disaster for Republicans, nor would it be the death-knell to conservatism. In fact, it’s possible a 2012 loss could lay the groundwork for a stronger Republican party and conservative movement.

Elections are almost always seen as urgent and morally imperative. But sometimes major victories can only come in the aftermath of what appear to be devastating defeats. John Kerry‘s loss in 2004 laid the groundwork for a Democratic takeover in 2006 and 2008, and Jimmy Carter‘s defeat of Gerald Ford in 1976 paved the way for the Ronald Reagan in 1980. In other words, it is a mistake to assume losing a presidential election is a permanent defeat.

“This should be the most important election since 1980, but so far it is not,” says Reagan biographer Craig Shirley. “Scottish historian Thomas Carlyle postulated the ‘great man’ theory of history, and indeed this was true with Washington, Jackson, Lincoln, TR, FDR and Reagan. But history has not summoned forth great men in 2012 and in fact our history today is small.”

This is not to say Republicans should concede the election, but conservatives should keep November in proper perspective.

I concur.

It is insanity. Evidently the people who post and read FR skip over the stories about Obama.

I keep reading that all we have to do is control the House and Senate. What difference do you honestly think it will make to Obama if both the House and Senate are 100% Republican? He will just ignore them and make his own law the way he is now.

Please read “The Communist” by Paul Kengor. It is about Obama’s mentor Frank Marshall Davis and it will show you what we are up against with the evil we are dealing with now.

The only thing that bugs me about Mittens voters is that they refuse to admit that they are voting for a liberal.

They’ll give every reason why (better than voting for a communist), but they refuse to admit it. I’m somewhat swayed by their arguments but the lack of honesty throws it off.

There are posters on this forum who I believe want Obama to win...
***Why do you romney rump ranger republicans always take the low road? Does JimRob WANT obama to win? Not one of your arguments ever rests on sound principles, nor even sound reasoning.

*shakes head* Flame away, I don’t care, it is INSANITY to
***I shall flame away, because you are not a conservative. Why would someone come onto a conservative website and try to separate conservatives from their conservative beliefs? Because he’s not a conservative. He’s a republican, yes, but not conservative. Why not go an convert an obot into a mittbot? Because it’s so much more fun to stir up discord with conservatives. Free Republic is not a republican website, it is a conservative website.

The number of Freepers who want a conservative in the White House, however, appears open to debate.

Right now, I just want Obama gone. I will do everything in my power to ensure Obama's loss. I believe that is priority one..

So, bottom line, you favor Obama.

You lack the backbone to make a decision between the two candidates and rationalize you failure. You have ultimately become irrelevant because of your failure to decide between the two

Nope. I’m hooked on getting rid of the worst President in the history of our country.

If the next one doesn’t govern any better (a huge if at this point), then I will work to remove him as well.

Re-electing the man who has already done so much damage to our country because of the bizarre notion that it will prove my ideological purity isn’t real appealing to me.

Too many bad apples in that barrel.. the whole barrel seems to be becoming cider.. producing dumberol..
Running the inventor of Romney-care against the inventor of Obama-care is a cartoon.. even IF Romney wins..

If all the republicans can come up with is George Bush, Juan McLaim and Myth Romney..
The whole party is drunk on dumberol..

I’m loyal as a dog, but jeeese this MUST STOP..
YES I said it.. George Bush.. who by the way made Zero Obama possible..
Probably ON PURPOSE...

The Bushs have always been One Worlders.. as many republicans are..
Maybe I’ll start smoking what Ron Paul is smoking..
Because the boy is high on something..

At the end of a second Obama term, there won’t be a country LEFT.
***Fear, fear, fear. Is that all you have, fear mongering? The same thing was said 4 years ago, and in almost every election where there’s been a CINO running.

“You must really hate Reagan then.

NOT ONE of the anti MItt can answer this question:

Who do you suggest as an alternative to examine to Mitt?

YOU are quick to tell me Mitt is bad but cannot answer that very simple question.

You must hide behind “ I cant tell you how to vote for” yet the 7 or 8 Daily Kos/Ron Paul trolls appear on each and every Mitt thread telling us not to vote for Mitt.

Not one of the Daily Kos and Ron Paul trolls here has ever answered that question.

They can’t.”

More leftist trolling and personal insults from TheLibZone. Seems to me I’ve already answered that question of yours in this thread, and in every thread this comes up. Did you ever stop to think that maybe.... Obama vs Mittens isn’t actually a choice to begin with? Your posts are a tale, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

A valid viewpoint, honestly stated.

I want him gone too. I just want him replaced with a conservative.

Sorry, but I disagree. The ONLY way another four years of Obamugabe could be mitigated would be if we had veto proof majorities in the House and Senate.

And if Obamugabe wins, that won’t happen.

Defeat the Kenyan Commie and repeal Obamacare.

The author of this piece ignores the danger Obama has done.
