I found a lot of stuff on the www to clarify things for the naysayers

Here's just one of them

Wisconsin: Republicans in three-way brawl for Senate nomination

By Karen Tumulty
Washington Post

FOND du LAC, Wis. -- A month ago, many people in this state presumed that Tommy Thompson -- still a household name in Wisconsin after serving an unprecedented four terms as governor -- had a lock on the Republican nomination for the Senate.

*snip*

The race has been upended by the late entry of Eric Hovde, a banker, investor and hedge-fund manager who had not lived in the state for 24 years until moving back from Washington, D.C., in 2011. Although Thompson likes to point out that Hovde's first vote for U.S. senator will be the one he casts for himself, the political newcomer has spent more than $4 million of his own money on advertising that portrays him as a fresh face with business expertise.

That created a possible opening for former congressman Mark Neumann, who also has benefited from the backing of national conservative leaders and from $700,000 in attack ads against Thompson and Hovde by the conservative group Club for Growth.

The anti-tax organization is hoping for a repeat of what happened last week in Texas, where the group's ads were a significant factor in the GOP primary victory of Ted Cruz over the better-known, better-funded longtime Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst.

*snip*

"I find it credible and plausible" that the race is now a dead heat, said Charles Franklin, a political scientist at Marquette University Law School in Milwaukee who runs a polling operation and was going into the field last week.

*snip*

Neumann, who ran against Walker for the GOP gubernatorial nomination in 2010, is basking in the governor's glow.

"The identity of the Republican Party was well defined by Scott Walker and his team," he said in an interview. "We do not have to settle. Folks are committed and understand we are the true conservative in the race."

Hovde declined a request for an interview.

I met Neumann and his wife at the busiest Walker Victory Center in WI on the TPX tour earlier this year.

They were helping Walker out and waiting for him to win his contest so he could start his campaign.

He's far and away the best candidate to beat Democratic Rep. Tammy Baldwin, who will probably be the left's pick.

FR is always a tough crowd, lol. Just happy to see we’re “fighting” about who is MORE conservative, not less RINO!

Gee, what an act of courage for Mark Neumann to support Walker in the Spring 2012 gubernatorial recall election.[/sarc]

If I'm not mistaken, I think that's the same Mark Neumann who was earnestly and repeatedly recruited by the state GOP to carry the party's banner (unopposed) and run for Senate in 2000, 2004, 2006 & 2010, but repeatedly said "No, I don't want to go to Washington DC."

I also seem to remember a Mark Neumann that took stimulus money for green energy projects. Maybe I'm confusing that guy with the Mark Neumann who was engaged in bogus "Green Construction" homebuilding (y'know, the type of construction where hypocritical guilty liberals buy jumbo-sized homes with expensive energy-conservation facets that will eventually recoup their costs after 20 years of projected conservation).

If my memory serves, I really think that Nark Neumann is the same guy who was begged to NOT run for Governor by the GOP leadership and nearly every conservative group in the state. Gosh, I seem to remember local conservative talk radio hosts begging Neumann to drop his quixotic gubernatorial effort and switch to run a 2010 Senate campaign.

If I'm not mistaken, I think that's the same Mark Neumann who chose to ignore the January 2010 secured Walker endorsements by 98% of all Wisconsin state representatives and senators and engaged in a dishonorable smear tactic-filled GOP gubernatorial primary against Walker in 2010.

If it's the same guy, I can't seem to forget the Mark Neumann who - despite trailing 3-1 in polls and with the Wisconsin GOP readying itself to make an unprecedented convention endorsement (in a contested state race) for Walker - staged a phony skirmish at the convention and initially claimed that he had been roughed up and kicked out of the state party convention.

But I will NEVER forget that Mark Neumann publicly threatened to quit his 2010 gubernatorial primary race (Wisconsin law prohibits primary losers from running as an independent candidate in the general election) to run an independent centrist campaign to the LEFT of Scott Walker.

Now, I'm glad that Ron Johnson jumped up to fill the GOP slot in the 2010 US Senate race that Neumann rejected. And I'm glad that the Mark Neumann I know eventually backed down from his initial wild convention claims and independent centrist 3rd party threat. And while I'm disappointed that the Mark Neumann that I know stayed in the gubernatorial primary until the bitter end, I was relieved that he eventually (albeit somewhat reluctantly) endorsed Scott Walker in the 2010 general election.

Was that the Mark Neumann - living embodiment of conservatisim [/sarc] - you met earlier this year?
