Chick-fil-A, Gay Marriage, and Your Grandchildren

It’s hard to read about...Civil Rights... without playing a game of ‘what would I have done?’ ...

This spring when Obama described his “evolution”... I felt like I could relate...

When... people rise up and demonstrate their commitment to their rights... how do you say no to them in good conscience?

... one is inevitably reminded of the Civil Rights Movement. The pattern of non-violent resistance adopted by Martin Luther King had a complex beauty, operating at one time on so many levels...

The Civil Rights Movement placed the burden of black suffering squarely on the plates of people all over the country who otherwise felt that they had no part in Jim Crow oppression. It forced citizens [to choose sides]...

I can still make an esoteric argument that gay marriage is meddling or social engineering or whatnot, but I have lost my ability to put my soul behind it. Maybe you can sit across the table from a beloved friend and tell them that your straight family is more legitimate, more right, more legally and politically appropriate than theirs. Perhaps you can look into the eyes of people you care for and respect and explain that providing their children with the full legal protection of an official family would threaten something...

I am not going to do that. Eat your sandwich alone.

Before you put down that shake and reach for your Bible, let’s make something clear. According to the Bible, marriage is a sacred covenant between one man, one woman, his additional wives, his slaves, his wives’ slaves, his concubines, virgins he’s caught raping, and any women he happens to capture in battle...

This week that line of dead-enders stretches out the door of the Chick-fil-A.

Enjoy that sandwich. Your grandchildren will be so proud.

You’re close.

The goal is, specifically, to criminalize Christian beliefs so they can use the power of the state to punish and kill those who hold those beliefs.

I disagree. Certainly they're going after Christians right now, but only because they're the "easy" targets. Low-hanging fruit, if you will.

If the goal is really to reach the ultimate Marxist state, what they're doing is a classic strategy of divide and conquer. Once the Christians have been neutralized (and by that I think the right term is "neutered", not "killed) they'll start going after the Libertarians, Secular Conservatives, etc.

Eventually they'll end up going after their own "useful idiots", basically the true secular humanists and hippies who will eventually wake up and realize that they've been lied to, used and f*cked over (Admins/Mods, pls excuse language, but I think it appropriate in this case). But at that point there won't be anyone left to join them in opposition - you'll be left with only two groups: the leadership cadre/vanguard and the enslaved.

Yes, they are being used as a vehicle of the left. True...

Yes, you’ve said it all.

And you are one who sees keenly the subtle but persistant expediency which motivates and propels the left, and serves its interests and agenda.

Some see the consequences at this point, but very few see the roots and motives.

Exactly! “... and then they came for me”.

Anybody who doesn’t know what that pertains to .. you better find out, before they come for you.

Amazing isn't it how intolerant the so-called 'tolerant' folks are? One look at that cartoon shows that clearly.

There is absolutely NO evidence of discrimination toward homosexuals at ANY Chick-Fil-A location anywhere in this country, but that hasn't stopped liberals all over from claiming it, and spreading that lie all through the social media. I read a comment on a TV message board from someone who claimed that CFA wants to 'kill all the gays'. He could only have gotten that notion from his liberal friends.

It all began with DADT in the 1990’s, which seemed like a reasonable policy. But, with every step, the activists screamed for more and more.

If marriage is ever redefined nationwide, what will happen next? Will the activists stop there?

At some point, they will have to concede that, whatever name is given to a same-sex relationship, it can never be the same as marriage. So maybe their next step will be to have any disagreement with same-sex “marriage” labeled as a hate crime under the law.

And then what will they want next? Already there have been articles claiming same-sex couples somehow have superior relationships, and that the rest of us can learn from them. And, already, same-sex couples are given adoption privileges that single people and people in platonic relationships aren’t given. Will same-sex couples be screaming for adoption privileges over opposite-sex married couples next?

It all sounds crazy, but we live in strange times.

Just wondering , though- how would you argue with, say, gay males who would assure you that they will still reproduce and pass on their sperm via surrogate mothers, as is now a new trend among them (Elton John being a famous example, but thousands of others are doing it as well). And lesbians who would tell you they will use sperm donors? (to me this is a whole new ethical problem which needs reigning in soon).

I would answer that offspring need input from both the male and female to successfully reach adulthood and form their own mating bond.

Reproduction involves more than just the male making his deposit and disappearing, it requires both parent investing in the upbringing of the offspring to assure survival. Harry and Larry aren't going to cut it, not only because they cannot take the place of mom, but because the role model they present is not one that will lead any offspring to adulthood with the appropriate background required for a successful relationship with the opposite sex.

Yes, I know there are exceptions to every rule. Just some personal observations about individuals I have been involved with who came from single parent or nontraditional families.

First, a very dear friend whom I've know since kindergarten. He was the youngest of four children. His father died of a heart attack when he was a toddler and his mom didn't remarry until all of the kids were grown. He was always just a bit different from the other boys who had dads. Not that he was a bad kid, he was a very good kid, just there was always something a bit different about him. He's now married with a son of his own and his son appears to be a totally normal kid with out that differentness that his dad had. Interestingly, his brother also married and had children, but neither of his sisters did and one sister has had some "issues" including being picked up for shoplifting (not a teenager, she was in her 50's when this happened - I'm not saying it was because of the lack of a father, just noting)

Next, I work with a guy who was raised by two dads. While he's married (but unable to conceive and going for in vitro, TMI) he stand out like a sore thumb, especially when contrasted to the other people I work with, many of whom are former police and FBI agent - the uber males, if you will. What I find most interesting about this guy is the size of his ego. He thinks he's the most wonderful thing that ever happened, and he's totally oblivious to how much of an idiot everyone else thinks he is. Again, I know that trait is shared by many others from two parent homes, but from other people who have come from "alternative" backgrounds, there seems to be some commonality there.

Anyway, in both of these cases there was the lack of a parent and both exemplify why a mom and a dad are the best assurance for raising offspring who, in turn, will produce their own successful families.

(I'm not even going into what's happen to the african american community and how the lack of fathers has destroyed a generation of young black men and women)

Thanks for your input. Very informative and I agree with you.

I would also add that there is something important about feeling you were conceived by a natural coming together of your married mother and father. I would not want to think my father had been just a sperm donor, or that my mother had been paid to carry me and then give me away. (this holds true as well for single straight women who delibrately use a sperm donor). Even if I were raised by 2 loving Dads or Moms the conception thing would irk me.
