Sikh temple shooting suspect identified as Wade Michael Page; Motivation unclear
CBS News ^ | August 6, 2012

The suspect in a shooting that left six people dead at a Sikh temple in suburban Milwaukee on Sunday has been identified as Wade Michael Page, who served in the U.S. Army for about six years.

According to sources in the U.S. Army, Page enlisted in April 1992 and given a less-than-honorable discharge in October 1998. He served at Fort Bliss, Texas, in the psychological operations unit in 1994, and was last stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, attached to the psychological operations unit. The details of his discharge were not immediately clear.

Wade was killed outside the temple in a shootout with police officers after the rampage that left terrified congregants hiding in closets and others texting friends outside for help.

Officials had previously described the suspect as a heavy-set, 40-year-old Caucasian with numerous tattoos.

Sources tell CBS News some unspecified evidence suggests race or ethnicity may have played a role in the violence, but no links to extremist groups have been confirmed.

Local police called the attack an act of domestic terrorism, but other sources tell CBS News correspondent Bob Orr it may be more accurate to refer to "an investigation into a possible hate crime."

Neither the local nor the federal sources provided further details or suggested a possible motive, including whether the suspect specifically targeted the Sikh temple.

I have read that his girlfriend just left him. It’s a fact that some people kill others when going for suicide by cop while they are angry.

It’s a little odd that about the only thing that has been learned about the guy so far is that he was discharged from the army fourteen years ago. That’s the opening line in this story. Looks like they’d have come across some other facts about him from more recent years.

Sikhs believe in the principle of non-violence.

Interestingly, their interpretation of it requires all Sikhs, or at least all male Sikhs (not sure), to be armed at all times. Though this means carrying a sword or dagger (kirpan), which in today’s world often means a sword or dagger shaped pin.

That way, if somebody attempts to use violence on innocent people, the Sikh can stop him.

Which is a POV on non-violence I can agree with.

Historically, this POV evolved after many decades of the Sikhs trying to implement the more traditional Gandhian version of non-violence despite Muslim persecution.

Sikhs also wear “magic underwear” (Kachhera), much like devout Mormons, and for much the same reason. Doubt anybody is going to be making fun of them for it, though.

At least if a functional kirpan is around.

If that’s the photo Fox News is running with, then I suggest they pull it down. The alleged suspect should be around 40 years old, and wouldn’t have been alive during WWII (that is, if competing info about the Army vet suspect is correct).

Could explain it.

My diagnosis: C-R-A-Z-Y.

Scary thing is it apparently took the military six years to realize this and muster him out.

Left-wingers are desperately hoping for a threefer. In their heads:

Strike 1- He served in the military, even though he had a less than honorable discharge.

Strike 2- He’s white.

Strike 3- He may have been associated with a white supremacist group.

Might not be the same person. Really need to NOT be like the MSM and search for people with the same name, printing the results as gospel.

There is NO way that’s the shooter. Fox News is full of crap. Do they want to get sued, too?

According to SPLC, Wade Michael Page was the leader of a neo-Nazi band called "End Apathy", along with other previous skinhead groups.

Wonder if he was part of OWS- endorsed by the neo-Nazi party.. .
