Wow I was going to post that Australian rules football [NOT rugby] is a great game - then I saw the Gaelic football video.
They are about exactly the same. Aussie rules has an oblong ball [not pointy like our gridiron footballs], not completely round. And in Aussie rules, the scoring is done by putting the ball thru uprights [center uprights 6, outer uprights 1.]
But the rules are about the same it looks like. In Aussie rules, a kicked ball that is caught earns a free kick [or one may play on] but I didn’t see that in Gaelic.
Aussie rules you have to bounce the ball every 10 meters, can only punch or kick the ball to someone [no throwing.]

I like the soccer aspect with the round ball, I think it gives the Irish game more of a flow than Aussie Rules.
If you want to get the sense of how good the game is, go to You Tube and search for the 2011 All-Ireland Final between Dublin and Kerry, it literally came down to the last kick of the game.
Agreed, loved watching Aussie Football when it was on semi-regular years back.
Aussie and Gaelic rules football teams actually have games against each other sometimes. The rules are close enough that they can come up with a compromise set and play.
I still wish they showed AFL games over here, ESPN used to show highlights at midnight on a weekend many years ago. Any game that combines the endurance needed in soccer with the power and hitting of rugby is OK in my book. And some of the athletic moves those guys make and the hits they take and deliver—with no pads—are amazing. They’ll even keep playing on while trainers are tending to an injured player on the field, unless they need to bring on a stretcher cart.
