James Holmes' Psychiatrist Contacted University Police Weeks Before Movie-Theater Shooting..
ABC News ^ | Aug. 6, 2012 | MARK GREENBLATT

Posted on 08/06/2012 10:14:41 PM PDT by PA Engineer

The psychiatrist who treated suspected movie-theater shooter James Holmes made contact with a University of Colorado police officer to express concerns about her patient's behavior several weeks before Holmes' alleged rampage, sources told ABC News.

...

Fenton would have had to have serious concerns to break confidentiality with her patient to reach out to the police officer or others, the sources said. Under Colorado law, a psychiatrist can legally breach a pledge of confidentiality with a patient if he or she becomes aware of a serious and imminent threat that their patient might cause harm to others. Psychiatrists can also breach confidentiality if a court has ordered them to do so.

This is an interesting revelation and something that I had suspected. From past experience in calling a 302 on a neighbor I was met with police resistance. Only after I told them they were going through neighbors mailboxes did they act. I am surprised that ABC reported this.

It has to be said: while we have great brave and solid police officers, the unionized bureaucracy along with left wing Dem theft has turned our law enforcement into a joke.

Along with the coddling of criminals that have been subjects of movies, TV and literature since the early 1960’s.

At least in the old days the law would just shoot Bonnie and Clyde, Machine Gun Kelly, etc. Shoot to kill.

I know, however the police should have acted. I want to see more details, but I suspect we will see nothing because of government negligence. They will continue the big lie that gun laws would have prevented this. The lie sticks while the truth will be buried.

The sources did not know what the officer approached by Dr. Lynne Fenton did with the information she passed along. They said, however, that the officer was recently interviewed, with an attorney present, by the Aurora Police Department as a part of the ongoing investigation of the shooting.

Uh oh...Where's the report?

Wasn't she the director of mental health, and or head psych for the University?

Did she just stop the first campus cop who happened by and had conversation with him?

Campus police? It seems this wouldn't be the way to report someone who she believed to be dangerous.

This should get interesting.

University of Colorado spokeswoman Jacque Montgomery declined to comment on what, if anything, the university police officer might have done with information provided by Fenton

I suspect when the victims attorneys start contacting Ms. Montgomery, she'll need to do better than that.

99% of campus staff have no common sense.

If there was a dorm fire, first one they call would be Dean of Housing.

That caught my eye. It seems clear to me if there was no report, then there was no report. Why the lawyer? The police just say we received no reports, however the specific officer in question lawyered up. Makes you go hmmm.

They are going to sue no matter what. Everyone is going to be caught up who are either remotely connected or not. The Doctor was concerned enough to go to the police. Holmes was seen as a danger to himself or others. That is the reason he was reported. The action was then past on to the appropriate authorities. An investigation and 72 hour commitment should have followed.

Oh, you bet. Universities have deep pockets.

After the event, when it was reported Holmes was seeing the shrink, the head psychiatrist for the UCO was probably telling everyone she saw she reported this guy to save her own hide.

If this is all true, and the university cops did nothing and failed to pass the info along...Well, they will lose in a really big, big way.

Or was it the city cops who had the info but did nothing?

Shades of Penn State.

I was wondering the same, however I know the campus police had the authority to act. The question will be whether the University Hospital had a vested interest in keeping the costs down. Mental illness does not reimburse well. Just another factor. This maybe cynical, but I will wager it is a factor.

Probably true, however, if the U cops can show they informed the city cops, they will limit their liability dramatically.

Otherwise, the U will take a *major* hit.

Sadly, this will all be delayed by discovery. The American attention span is short and the politicians have used the incident for what it is worth. I am just sad many here had immediately jumped to conclusions. A conclusion before the facts is never the truth.

You bet, I read a lot of it...Wild reckless speculation was off the charts, when it should have been obvious, this guy was simply a mental case.

Shades of Penn State.

Considering the now GOVERNOR, when he was an officer of the court, knew of the situation.. and did NOTHING... PSU and the state of PA is struggling to wash it all away.

So it all still could get very messy...

Oh and it must be noted the Gov was on the board of PSU while this was all "going down".

Corbet apparently did not try to get PSU to get this handled with the first reports in the early 1990's.

A lot of these lunatics turned out to have had strong (Leftist) political views. Just because they're 'mental cases' doesn't mean they can't be politically minded.
