Support for same-sex marriage is now in the Democratic Party preliminary platform. Once approved by the full platform committee and voted on at the convention, same-sex marriage will have the formal support of the Democratic Party.
But as Democrats institutionalize their support for same sex marriage, their relationship with the party's most loyal constituency, black Americans, becomes increasingly uneasy. A new survey just released by the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life shows 65 percent of Democrats supporting same-sex marriage compared to just 40 percent of blacks.
A group of 3,700 black clergymen, known as the Coalition of African-American Pastors and under the leadership of Rev. William Owens, has moved to formally oppose the Democratic Party and President Obama on this issue.
The group is spearheading a "Mandate for Marriage" campaign to gather 100,000 signatures on a petition declaring support for traditional marriage and calling "on President Obama to repudiate his assertion that gay marriage is a civil right."

Exactly. No matter what, these same black pastors will still lead their congregants in voting for Bruvver Obama in November.
Agree. 96% will vote skin.
Only thing it might do is reduce enthusiasm and turn out.
But likely some racism charges avaunt Romney are planned last minute to counter that.
Hopefully they just stay home.
they can ‘oppose’ him all they want, but in the end they’ll sell out their principles and pull the lever for him in a new definition of hipocricy
Hope they won't change its spelling as well, LOL.
Blacks may still vote 95% Obama, but those 3700 Pastors means there’ll be 3700 less buses used to drive voters to the polls, 3700 less sermons from the pulpit the Sunday before election telling their flocks that Republicans want to bring back Jim Crow, etc.
I guess we will just have to wait and see.
But I would bet that most of them will fall in line when the time comes.
IMO-—Probably this issue plus economy will lead to about a 5% decline in the black vote—turnout mostly and not votes for Mitt. If the decline is greater, then even better news.
There can only be one “First Time” and the hype surrounding it... last election was that first time. It would not have mattered who that black candidate was or what the looked like. Of course Obama amplified that hype with his “Hope and Change” BS. But that kind of hype will never happen again in our life time. Except for the rise of the beast 666 and his miraculous powers to mesmerize the public, hype-time is over, Obama cannot recreate it... yes, he’ll get the black vote, but not like last time, its over.
I totally agree. The pastors said they wouldn`t support 0bama on THIS issue. As for skin color, entitlements, AA, and every other social engineering project, they`ll be in his corner with the same percentages as ever.
In summation, this posturing amounts to just words.
I believe that you re correct, but it does not explain why they won't vote for men like Allen West, Herman Cain, or Ward Connerly.
Somehow most Blacks in America have been so brainwashed by the Democrat party that they will vote Democrat no matter what the party espouses. They truly believe the Democrat party is their salvation. So yes, they will in virtual lockstep vote for Obama because he is Black, regardless of their values. But if there is a Black Republican vs virtually any Democrat out there, the Democrat will still get their vote because it is unthinkable for most Black Americans to vote Republican.
Not a single comment to the effect of: "Hey guys, let's try to encourage these black pastors & their flocks!" So much for the claim that we Freepers don't 'go with the flow' but courageously stand for what is right!
There are doubtlessly conservative people of color who frequent this forum. How would YOU feel to hear such sentiments? My guess is you wouldn't put up with it for a New York Minute if someone were to treat you so dismissively.
We need to encourage positive developments such as these black pastors taking a stand for traditional marriage - not dismiss them out of sheer prejudice.
No one here knows how many of these black pastors will end up voting for Obama, and how many will have genuinely had their eyes opened. Remember that the goal is not to get 100% of the black vote: if the percentage of Obama voters is reduced by, say, even 10 percentage points, it could cost him the election.
So let's be smart and put aside old prejudices, and start encouraging black conservatives.
Flame away.
No flame needed, I would say that Most Conservative blacks agree that blacks are going to vote for Obama.
Conservative blacks are not stupid that’s why they are Conservative, they know the facts the same way we know them.
Allan Keyes, Allan West, they know what they are facing. Keyes already has faced it and lost.It isn’t our predjudices and bigotry that causes black to vote as they do it is theirs.
Obama could lose 2 in 10 black votes. I can easily see an enthusiasm drop off this time around, plus many are simply hurting as evidenced by the job numbers esp for black youth, then there is the whole gay issue. Now I am not saying 2 in 10 will vote for Romney, but i think it’s entirely possible they will stay home. I do however think that 1 in 20 could end up voting for Romney. Add all that up and that aint good for Obama.
No one, as you claim, said that Blacks are too stupid to think for themselves. Neither are Jews who also vote almost entirely for Democrats. But both groups have an entrenched historical pattern of voting for Democrats no matter what. This is a reality. I hope and pray that both groups will see the truth about Obama and the Democrat party. But at this point I can not think of anything that Obama could do that would chip away substantially at their support. Black and Jewish Conservatives as well as the rest of us Conservatives have an uphill battle on our hands.
If you’d like to present any evidence that “this time it’ll be different,” then please feel free to go ahead and try. However, we’ve heard the “black people are really mad at the Democrats about social issues” line for decades - and it’s never panned out.
So you can whine about it being “racism” to say so all you like - still doesn’t change reality.
It’s imparative for Christians of all colors to start living in line with their morals.
Liberals have tried to make it taboo to be a Christian outside the church. Christians have to disobey this and be real. They would be happier, more loving, more healing, more successful if they would recommit themselves to who they really are in Christ and allow themselves to live that way.
