The only way to fix the problem is to run a Conservative candidate. As long as you are running an Obama clone, those Obama voters who'd like to vote for a Republican this time won't really have a choice in a Romney candidacy.

They'll simply not vote.

To chew away at the Democrat's numeric edge in this race we will need to peel off a part of a large faction.

That does not seem to be the intent of the GOP-e. They are, in fact, lining themselves up for one of the great defeats of all history.
